Has anyone else experienced a failed bypass?

Has anyone else experienced an infection in the site?  They think my husband has MERSA....

So what did you guys do after having failed surgery and infection in your body?

My husband had the failed bypass and then an infection which went to the skull and he had to have a craniectomy.  He has suffered from horrible, severe headaches ever since....so debilitating.  We are seeing the surgeon tomorrow for a CAT scan and to schedule the surgery to have the new bone flap put in (titanium plate).  I have contacted Stanford and they are going to review Matt's files.  The doctors here say that the disease is now present on the right side of the brain as well.  Have any of you experienced severe headaches?

My daughter is 7 years post op.  2 years ago she started having severe migraines.  Since then she has been hospitalized 3 times.  Currently she is in the hospital (3rd time) for Migraines.  Today she had a procedure done that is called the occipital nerve block.  So far it has helped.  She has not been Migraine/headache free for the last month.  So far the procedure is helping...however it was only done about 7 hours ago

I had an EC/IC Bypass, and it failed. I have been recovering ever since. My recovery has been very difficult and quite slower than usual, but is considered not uncommon. It has affected my memory, cognitive and language skills.

I am taking it one day at a time...

try to hang in there. Perhaps consult with a dr. and see what your options are.

my daughters bypass on either side did not take.  the left side only as local blood flow and the right side minimal blood flow.  i've been told nothing else can be done for her.  she has about 95% blockage on left and about 85 to 90% on right and her back atteries are bout 50% blocked..  I asked what all this means and they said she would continue to hve the TIA she has almost daily, and she will have more strokes till a stroke takes her life.  when they don't know but they said it will happen as the moyamoya continues to get worse.  her lungs are also getting worse.  her cough out put is only about 35% and should be 80 to 100%   and her deeep breath intake should be 90 to 100 liters  and hers is only 45% of it.   so we are just in a waiting game.   

My wife suffered a hemorogic stroke about a year ago.  This caused bleeding in the brain and slightly inhibited her ability to speak.  Then a few months later, her right arm went numb and that is when we were told an angiogram revealed that she had moya-moya.

We were told that her best option was to have a bypass surgery.  I was originally told that they put in 2 bypasses and it was a success.  But when they got her back to the room after the surgery, I was told that there was blood in the area of the brain near the surgery.  They took her back to the OR, evacuated the blood, and clamped one of the bypasses shut.  Because of this bleeding, she lost almost all of her ability to speak.

About a week after the surgery, I noticed she lost fine movement abilities in her right hand.  Another angiogram revealed that the remaining bypass had clogged.  It is several months later and she can still barely speak (although it is improving slowly) and her right hand is numb.

I had a failed EDAS bypass procedure done.  It worked for a bout 4 years and then vessel only showed localized growth and I was still having TIAs.  So last summer, my neurosurgeon did burr hole (Japan normally does this in conjunction w/the bypass), 5 anteriorly and 3 posteriorly.  It seemed to help immediately and my tia had almost dissappeared.  But i don't know what's gonna happen in the long run or what new procedure will be developed.  Now my other side has shown more strokes and will having the same procedure again. 

I am so sorry to hear of all of you that have had a failed bypass/surgery.

I have not had any issues and I have had a STA-MCA and EMS. I still get migraines but they have not been as frequent the more times passes.

My Nurologest was a MoyaMoya specialest and mid surgery he reconized there was not enough bloodflow with just the STA-MCA, so he did the EMS. He discussed this as a possibility so he reviewed it before I went in for my surgery.

Did you see a Moyamoya specialest before they did the surgery?

sadly i didn't and here in Hawaii we are VERY limited.  and i didn't have enough funds to travel.  so i had to pick from here which was very very slim. 

I had 3 additional surgeries. Weeks of PICC line for infection. I had a new plate in. No idea about how to deal with bypass.

Yes, I needed a 3rd bypass.  Still have severe headaches every day.  Have tried every medication.
