Hi everyone!

I'm new to this forum.  Was recommended to this site by a family friend.  I was recently diagnosed and still in the process of doing more tests, but I was wondering what are the other types of treatments there are besides of surgery?  I thought that surgery was the only option but a doctor told me that he thought there was another type treatment but I can't find it online. 

Also, has any of you had to go through a preauthorization process with your insurance for your surgery to be covered at Stanford?  If so, did you have any problems?  I live in Hawaii  and I'm concerned that it may not be covered.  I want to go to the best and reading all of your posts Dr. Steinberg sounds like he is the best!  I know money shouldn't be a concern, but was just wondering if anyone else had a problem.

Hi Anne!  Everything I have read and heard from the specialists leads me to believe that surgery is the only option for moyamoya. 

We have an HMO for our insurance and it was a bit of a hassle to get the approval for treatment at Stanford.  I would suggest that you ask for a case manager at the insurance so you can work with the same person all the time.
