Title: Moyamoya and wisdom teeth Post by hillary on May 17th, 2012 at 1:13pm
Holly needs to have 3 wisdom teeth pulled. Has anyone had this done with Moyamoya? How did it go? We have spoken to one oral surgeon and he said he wouldn't do it because of her Moyamoya. They reccommended that we have it done in a hospital setting in case there are complications. Any advice?

Before I was diagnosed with MoyaMoya, I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled. I never thought about until now.

Hello. I had 4 wisdom teeth pulled post surgery at age 50. It was a local anesthetic. The oral surgeon asked me about the Moya Moya but did proceeded anyway.

I too had mine pulled before I found out that I had the moyamoya and I had no complications. It was pretty simple. But then again I had a major shoulder surgery last summer before I found out that I had this and my primary doctor said that now that we know, she is amazed that I didn't have any complications with that. So I guess it can't hurt to err on the side of caution, but from my understanding, wisdom teeth are a pretty easy thing. My procedure didn't take very long.

I had my wisdom teeth pulled after my MM surgery. Everything went fine! I had it done at the oral surgeons office. Hugs to you all!

I had mine pulled out while having another operation. I was under for 5 plus hours. This was 4 years before my diagnosis. I had about 6 other surgeries before diagnosis. .... I only had trouble waking up but that can be found in other cases.
It shouldn't be a problem. Good luck! |

Tara had two wisdom teeth pulled a year and a half ago. The oral surgeon educated herself on moyamoya, and was comfortable doing the procedure. Outside of the typical post-op pain (managed with meds), it all went very smoothly.

Thanks everyone, she has a consult with a Dr. at Lucille Packards in June. We asked her Neurologist this week about it and she said she preferred that it be done there too.
I think it is also because she has been having weird/allergic reactions to meds lately. |

Title: Re: Moyamoya and wisdom teeth Post by Shelbi on Jun 3rd, 2012 at 8:55pm
Shelbi is waiting for braces to come off, her wisdom teeth are all positioned wrong and one is trying to grow through. So as soon as the braces come off she has to be re x rayed. If she has to have them removed surgically she will have it done at Children's. She had to have a Chiari decompression five years after her revascularization, which was ten years ago and her NS said that the anesthesia was more of a risk to her then the brain surgery itself, do to the risk of her BP dropping while being under anethesia. I was told that they had a special nurse in the OR who did nothing but monitor her BP with all of her surgeries in case it dropped they would be ready to administer the meds to raise the BP. With her last surgery this situation occured so I will always feel more comfortable having her in a hospital environment with any surgery.
