Title: Antihistimine as a pain med. Post by mg12061 on Aug 16th, 2012 at 6:55am
I know I've read cautions about taking antihistimines here. Are ALL antihistimines considered a vascular constrictor? Kathleens GI Dr has put her on a med called Cyproheptadine (Periactin) whichis an antihistimine for GI pain. I haven't seen anything online as far as side affects of being a vascular constrictor but I don't know that ti's not either. One thing I know it's also used as an appetite stimulant and boy did it stimulate her appetite! She was constantly hungry. He has since cut the dose in half. She's only been on it a little over a week.

When I have had questions about medication I always call my daughters neuro doctor and ask them about the medication. Another suggestion is, if you would like more information about the medication you can ask your pharmacist to print information out from their computer system and you can read about it. When I worked at a pharmacy we did that all the time. In the meantime I'm glad to hear that it is helping with her appetite. That is always a good thing.
