Does anyone take Keppra.
I am more interested to know from folks who have infant/ toddler MMers amongst them.  Our Neurologist mentions that our baby (he is now a toddler ar 14 months) needs to take keppra for atleast 2 years . The reason being that our baby had seizures when he first suffered a stroke at 5 months of age (i.e. when MM was detected) and there was actue loss of blodd supply to the brain, causing a stoke. I read online and unless one is on anti-seizure medication after stroke there is a 95 % chance that one will get seizures after the stroke (since the brain is in inflamatory condition)
So my question is, now that the surgery is done and he is showing signs of improvement, should be stop the anti seisure medicine (keppra) or just continue with it. Not sure if I should consult a second neurologist or just believe the one that we currently go to.

Hi! I don't have a toddler...but perhaps this might be helfpul. My daughter was 6 and 7 yrs old when she had each of her surgeries, had a stroke after each surgery and a seizured briefly after her first. She was put on Dilantin in hospital, then Tegretol when we left the hospital. She has been monitored by our Stroke team, neurosurgery team and another neurologist. We are 5 years post stroke and post surgery and are only now after the most recent favourable MRI/CVR and EEG, willing to start reducing her Tegretol. We are reducing it in small increments as prescribed by the neurologist, then when she is at half her doesage in approx. 3 mos time, having an EEG....if it remains good, she'll be reduced more. They are very cautious............

Hey.  My then 2 1/2 year old started taking Keppra following a seizure during a stroke.  He had surgery a few months later.  We kept him on the Keppra for several months.  Dr. Scott was not sure it was necessary so we contacted our neurologist.  Our neurologist gave our son a EEG (not painful, but we had to keep him awake for many hours!).  The EEG did not show any seizure activity, so we took him off the Keppra.  We wanted him off because he seemed to be having some negative personality issues with the Keppra.  He is now 4, almost 5, and doing fine without the medication.  Good luck!

My daughter was on Keppra for a very short time.  she is a teen (not a toddler) and it really changed her personality.  Her Neuro called it Kepprage and took her off it right away.  He put her on Vimpat which has worked just as well without the anger issues.

My husband was on Keppra after he had a seizure right after his indirect bypass in January of this year.  I reported to doctors how up and down his moods were, aggressive and highly irritable.  They said aggression is a side effect of Keppra. If you are able to, I would say speak to child's doctor about getting off the medication.

We talked with our Neurologist and our son has a EEG scheduled to evaluate if we can reduce his medication.
by the way, any ideas on how to administer the keppra medication. We are currently giving syrup and our son throws up almost daily. Is there a tablet verision (that is water soluble ??) . Currently we need to admister 1.5 ml twice daily..
