Title: Getting 2nd Opinions
Post by Robert on Nov 2nd, 2012 at 10:55am
Last week I submitted packages to both Boston and Stanford, to get 2nd opinions. This is to let everyone know upfront, Boston requires $350 cash/check for this unless you are showing up in person. I have not heard from Stanford, but talking to Jill I believe this is not the case for them. Reasoning from Boston's POV, is insurance isnt covering 2nd opinions in most cases.

And to follow up, if Insurance does cover it, then they will re-imburse you.

Robert, I know for a fact that you are correct and you don't have to send money to Stanford for a 2nd opinion.  My daughter was diagnosed July 10th of this year and we sent her records to both (although I wasn't aware they reimburse ... thank you for that info), and we were in Boston a month after he received the records.  We received a call from Stanford as well and they were just as nice, friendly and willing to perform the surgery.  But something in our hearts led us to Boston and we cannot say enough about the doctors and staff there. They were wonderful, as I am sure Standford is as well.  Good luck!!!  Our prayers are with you.

Talked to Stanford this afternoon, Dr Steinburg recommends surgery. We will get a package from them probably early next week with recommendation.

Was nice to talk to someone! Now we start planning. Right now we are thing end of May after school gets out.

Robert, so glad you finally talked to someone. At least now you know what you are dealing with.  If your son ever wants to communicate with my daughter, Destin about what to expect with the surgery let me know and I'll tell you how to reach her.  Facebook usually works best for her.
