Hi, I've been a member for some time but haven't really posted.
I was just wondering if others with moyamoya have anything on the ASD as well?

Hi Dawn,
My son is 13, diagnosed with Moyamoya in 2011 and he has Down Syndrome and ASD. He was born with 2 holes in his heart and we were told by the neurosurgeon that people born with DS who also have heart problems are at a higher risk for Moyamoya. I haven't heard any relation between Moyamoya and ASD though.

Hi Karen, I haven't known of MM being related to ASD but Kathleen also has Down syndrome which I knew that was a risk factor. But I didn't know about the heart risk. Kathleen was also born with a small hole in her heart. Luckily it closed almost to nothing just before she was diagnosed with MM. Interesting...

Hi Karen, My daughter also has Down Syndrome but no heart problems. This disease has more questions all the time.

Hi Mary Grace,

Christopher had open heart surgery at 4 months old to close the VSD, the other hole closed on its own. The neurosurgeon told us about the higher risk of those with ds and heart issues, his cardiologist never even heard of MM before Christopher!

I'm assuming there is still so much even the MM drs don't know about this disease! Just having DS there is so many risks for other diseases, it is pretty scary!
