Title: Dr. Neil Martin - UCLA Los Angeles, CA
Post by mpressions on Aug 15th, 2004 at 1:08am
Dr. Neil Martin has done my wife's surgery and he did an excellant job.  He has performed over 100 bypasses for MM patients and all are still around.  You can also expect him to spend plenty of time with you after the surgery.  He was also ranked best stroke doctor 2003: link http://www.neurosurgery.medsch.ucla.edu/Faculty/Martin/Faculty_Martin.html.  Also you can see the surgery on a video by Dr. Martin for other doctors to follow. It does take forever to down load.  http://neurosun.medsch.ucla.edu/ocps/Sta-MCA%20bypass/STA-MCA%20Bypass%20Technique_files/frame.htm

Hope this helps

Just to you all, I know DR. Neil Martin is mentioned by another member, but it was a question post.  I thought it would be best if I gave additional information on DR. Martin.  I am happy for the original post, because I would not have been confortable with that doctor if it was not for her.  She helped me in ways she may not of understood when she posted that questions.

Wayne,

Information on Dr. Martin is greatly appreciated as he was one of the names I was originally given when I was diagnosed.  I believe he is a very good option for people seeking treatment with Moyamoya.

Using your experience with Dr. Martin can be of great help to those looking for options, however, you might want to stray away from a "blanket statement" about the details of how the surgery will work for everyone (especially in this section of the board) as I'm sure Dr. Martin treats each surgery on a "case by case" basis (i.e. some people might need longer between surgeries, some surgeries might take longer than others, etc.).

Also, Dr. Martin was listed as one of the best stroke doctors in California in 2003, but that doesn't mean he was listed as one of the best Moyamoya specialists... something we've discussed the difference between many times on this site.

Just trying to remain objective with my  [smiley=twocents.gif]

My daughter (12 years old) was just diagnosed with MM 2 days ago.  Dr. Neil Martin was suggested as the neurosurgeon to see.

Does anyone know if he has had many surgeries on children?  What is the percentage of his surgeries performed on children?

Our pediatric neurologist is Dr. Giza.
