Title: Dr. James Grotta - Houston, TX
Post by Lucia_White on May 8th, 2005 at 12:46am
My name is Lucia White and I was diagnosed with moya-moya in October of 2003. My 1st nuerosurgeon who was not familiar with mm sent me to a stroke specialist by name of  Dr. James Grotta.

Dr. Grotta has dealt with several patients in Houston with mm. My first visit with him was so very informative. He spoke to me on my level (which was great...no big words which would be foriegn to me) and I of course brought my twin sister who is a nurse. She told me she was very impressed with him.

He introduced me to Dr. Vollmer who has performed several revascularization surgeries. He was a bit rough around the edges but overall, he was extremely intelligent and knew a great deal about mm.  I talked with several associates around the hospital and they all told me that he is very well respected at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

My surgery was performed in February of 2004. I had a pretty rough time of it. I spent 9 days in the hospital and I took two months off of work.

It is a little past a year now and I am doing pretty well. I have to go back to see Dr. Grotta about the other side of my brain!  I am hoping that I will not need another  surgery.

I hope this information will help! My prayers are with you if you have mm. God Bless you and take care!

Lucia,
That's great news. Hope your road to recovery continues.  Can you share with us the type of procedures you had and what kind of meds you are on.
                     Ron

Lucia:

Dr. Grotta is my neurologist, too and I love him. He is great. I agree with everything you said. Please contact me if you want. I am in Houston (well, Katy) and would love to meet you!

:) Sara
