Title: continuation"THUMP NOISES"
Post by itsme on Feb 3rd, 2006 at 3:21pm
OOOPSSS...pushed the wrong button. ANY WAY, I hear
thumping or sloshing like crazy all the time on my left side. I had my right side done. Kevin had it done around the same time as I and am wondering are any of you out there hearing the same sounds?  I talked to Terese about this noise but....she said it's only the ARTERY pumping blood to our brains.
It's annoying and it feels like my HEART is in the wrong place. I'm glad something is pumping but it's REALLY WIERD.

Thanks for your input.

LOL,
itsme

ha!!!! this swooshing noise is the bane of my existence!!!! before i had my first bypass i could hear it fairly loudly in my left ear.... after surgery it was gone!! yay.... but then i realised i could hear it softly in my right ear, and then oit drastically got louder and louder and LOUDER... and now if there's no other sounds around my i hear it so distinctly, feels like i'm going mad (so i listen to music 24/7)

asked my neuro and he said it was the arteries communicating, and sort of telling eachother where the blood should divert to, where more mm vessels are needed etc.....
interesting....

but can't wait to be rid of it!

Thanks EMILY 1ST for letting me know about the MODIFY KEY...DJ knows I am computer illiterate....

NOW, that thump noise did disappear somewhat right AFTER MY SURGERY, and now after 7 months IT IS GETTING LOUDER AND it's at a point where my heart beat is NOTHING compared to this annoying noise. It's swooshing LOUD as I type this, too. YUK!

So, we can't get rid of this huh? OH WELL, I guess I shouldn't complain, at least it's doing it's thing.

THANKS AGAIN! LOL,
itsme

Hi

I too have this noise on my left side. Almost a "Catch 22" isn't it -  great to know the blood is circulating, but drives you insane at night !

I have now purchased an "under pillow" speaker - when the swooshing is at its worst, I turn music on and it plays up through the pillow. (Also does not disturb others in the bed/room/house etc.

Good luck
Helene

What a great remedy, Helene!  I've never even heard of an under-pillow speaker, and it sounds like it may be of benefit to quite a number of people here!  I know when I was sick 4 years ago (not MM, but it caused a similar annoyance) I would've loved to have one of them!

Thanks for sharing!

I thought i was the only one hearing this swooshing sound.  I totally agree it is very annoying especially at night when you are trying to sleep.
Where can i get that pillow speaker? sounds like a great idea.
Regards,
Cheryl

Thankyou friends for your "heads up" I guess it's not unusal to hear this noise. I only had the right side done and I hear it LOUD on my left side.
Can anyone tell us if you get BOTH sides done YOU HEAR "HEARTBEAT"noises behind both ears?
The noise is "errie" because it can get LOUD and sometimes it can disappear OR it gets softer......hmmm?

Thanks again for your replies!

Hi

I have had surgery on both sides, and only hear the noises on my left side.  I am becoming better at zoning the noise out.

As I said in previous post, the under pillow speakers help a lot. I purchased the speaker at an electronics store in Australia called "Tandy" - I am sure you would have a similar store. The speaker was not expensive - worth a try !
