I had my 2nd surgery in Stanford in August. It was very successful.  I completely recovered within a month and back to fulltime work since then.  So as you all can imagine, I had two pieces of pazzled scalp and 6 titanian clips in my head. ;D

Howerever, started from last week, I experienced some mild pain on both side of the scalp around the incision area. Sometimes the pain expends to the whole scalp and causes mild headache.  I'm in Chicago, the temprature changed a lot recently.

Is it possible that the changing climate makes my pazzled bones shrink, shift or something like that and cause pain?  :D Did this ever happen to anybody else? Is there anything we can do to privent? wearing a hat to keep my head worm all the time?

I just had my surgeries at Stanford with Dr.Steinberg on 22nd and 29th Sept, respectively. Now I still experience some pain on the incision site (the place where the STA-MCA meets). The pain is not so severe but it does makes you wonder why there happened and does everyone who has gone thru' the surgeries feel the same?

I noticed that I do feel the pain when I am under stress, eg, in a traffic jam in the heat of 40C or when I am upset or when I slept sideways (perhaps putting stress on those areas).

I am now staying in Qatar (a country in the middle east) and the weather here is soooooo  hot. And that does not help either!

I've got no insight into your query regarding the pain, but I'm glad to hear you've had your 2nd surgery, and so much closer to home.

How would you say the whole experience compared to Japan?

I live in MN and I have the itchys when the weather changes around my scar. The presure changes can cause a mild headach but it is getting better over time. I hope this helps.

  I had my surgery last March on the right side only and I am having random pain too. I live in Ohio so the temperature has changed here too. It can be pretty intense(like an ice pick in the head)  but usually goes away if I can rest for a few minutes. I never thought about the weather change thats probably why I'm having that random pain. Becky and Patty, we are all in the midwest, so we are going through the same seasonal change.  The pain on my scalp was not very intense. It's a combination feeling of "tight" and pain. It feels like someone squzzing my head.

My husband said that the opened bone need to grow back and reconnect with the rest, it might be part of the growing pain. But he's just making wild guess.  I'll ask Dr. Steinberg when I have chance.

The surgery technique and the post-op care are very different in Stanford.  Japan is on the conservative side.  At the beginning, I was worried that the surgery  schedule seemed too agressive for my body to handle, but I turned out to be fine.  My recovery was very quick and smooth, just like a perfect text book example, and I didn't need to shave my head. ;D

My daughter had her 1st surgery at Stanford 1 year ago tomorrow and she just recently, like in the past 2 weeks says her scalp has finally quit hurting and itching. I guess everyone is different. We also live in IL and in fact my daughter had her 6 month tests done at UIC.

Christie, was Dr. Steinberg OK with your daughter not going back to him for 6 month check up?

I'm a constultant.  I don't get paid and my client will not be happy if I need to take off from work for more than a week to stanford. Also, the hotel, car rental and air line tickets cost a lot too.  With econamy like this, I really wish I could get all the 6 month check up done locally.

I had my surgery, MRI's, and angio all at UIC.  I have been happy with all my treatment there. So if you are thinking about going there, I would say you should try it.

I have to ask where all the Illinoians are located.  My DH had first surgery at Northwestern and second out in CA with Steinberg.  We live in Addison.
