Post by DJ on May 25th, 2010 at 12:29pm
Moyamoya.com family,

With special thanks to Dr. Scott and Mr. David Steger from Children's Hospital Boston, we have been invited to a ground breaking opportunity to watch a pial synangiosis surgery on a Moyamoya patient LIVE on the internet!

PLEASE show your support and visit the web address listed below and add your reminder to watch this incredible event.

Quote:
On Tuesday, June 8 at 10 a.m. EDT Children's Hospital Boston will broadcast a live Webcast of a pial synangiosis on a patient with Moyamoya disease. The procedure, pioneered by Children's Hospital Boston's Neurosurgeon-in-Chief Dr. Michael Scott, involves relocating a healthy blood vessel, the superficial temporal artery, from the scalp to the surface of the brain.

This one-hour Webcast is part of Children's ongoing effort to bring knowledge of advanced care and technology to specialists and referring physicians around the world, and to educate patients and families about the latest and most innovative medical treatments available.

my grandaughter just had this surgery on both sides of her brain on 5/17/10 done by Drs. Smith and Scott at Boston Childrens Hospital. We are so grateful for these Drs and  hospital. All of the medical personal were familiar with MoyaMoya which was reassuring. After recieving the dx in NY that left us scared we feel more confident that she will have a normal life.  I'll be watching webcast on 6/8

Is the live web cast on tomorrow (6/8) at 9 or 10AM as I don't want to miss it.  When I looked on the Boston website some places it says 9 AM and others say 10 AM. I'm excited to watch it tomorrow, and got coverage for my class to have the hour free to view it.  Although my surgery was at Stanford, I'm assuming it'll be very similar, I'm also anxious to see what was done to me.

Thanks for the heads about this being on.

I agree...amazing, fascinating...and very emotional for me.  My daughter is 8 months post-surgeries, but the tears are flowing as I consider anew the gift of life that Dr. Scott provided for my child.

OMG, it was the most emotional, and amazing experience I ever had. I’m speechless and in awe. Dr. Scott and his team are without a doubt, genius!! I’m so grateful I got to see that. For some reason I can't stop crying. It was fantastic!

Mar. you took the words right out of my mouth. It WAS emotoinal and exciting watching this live. My husband and I both watched. It brought back so many memories. What a wonderful tool for newly diagnosed patients. I'm also going to contact their new stroke clinic and try to set up an appointment for Kathleen to have a full multidisciplinary evaluation. I've bee trying to research some different options for kathleen's left arm and hand. There are soooo many new options from surgery to splints to help regain some use back. Dr. Scott by the way is the greatest! and boy is he calm and cool or what!!!!

I just watched most of the surgery with my daughter.  WOW! So many things I wondered about and got to see live. It really brought back a lot of memories.  She had her surgeries with Dr. Steinberg in California though.  :) I really think this video will be great for newly diagnosed patients as well.

Yes, Dr, Scott is very calm & cool.  My boss walked in my office while I was viewing, and he commented about how incredible it seemed to him that in the midst of this exceptionally delicate surgery, Dr. Scott was talking about it as though he were just having a chat with a friend.  He also commented on how incredibly steady his hands were (thank goodness!).   :)

We are so very blessed that Ruby's surgeon did a surgical fellowship at BCH so she learned from the very best!

It was so incredible, I loved it. I would love to share it with my family and friends. I wasn't sure how I would feel watching it, but it brought back some wonderful memories of some amazing people we were blessed to know in CA. It reminded me and proved what we all already know there is a God and we were touched by him whether it was through Dr. Scott or Dr. Steinberg and their amazing team of angels!
Good bless them for saving us all!

It was such a great thing to see, and emotional also.  Very helpful and just seeing and hearing Dr. Scott and Dr. Smith made me feel thankful that we chose to travel to Boston for Amanda.  They are angels, the whole team!!!!  And to know they are so dedicated to their patients, is just awesome!
