I have recently had surgery (less than 4 weeks ago), a bilateral revascularization and had an extremely good result. Dr. Spetzler of the Barrows Neurologic Institute is an expert at this surgery, and I was told by another neurologist I know that Dr. Spetzler had perfected this procedure. Thus, I felt very confident undergoing the surgeries. I still have some headaches but am hopeful the surgery will be curative. Unlike others on this site, I had few symptoms prior to the surgery, and only transient aphasia post-surgery as a complication that has now resolved. He told me there was a 96% success rate and that the long-term outlook is that I should be able to live a normal life. I am 55 but have had the blocked carotids for 7 years (that I am aware of).
