Dr. Scott is the premier Moyamoya specialist on the east coast.  Located at Boston Children's Hospital, he specializes in the pediatric treatment of Moyamoya and the EDAS surgery.  Dr. Scott does, however, also treat adults.

Here is his info:

Our daughter Natasha was operated by Dr.Scott in Boston in November 2001. We have only the highest praise for Dr.Scott, his team and the hospital staff who were superb during the whole process and we would have absolutely no hesitation in recommending them to anybody.  Smiley

Being based in Geneva we have probably talked to a few other surgeons little known in the U.S. We met with Prof. Lumley and Prof. Neville at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, and were very comfortable with them.

We also met with Professor Yanegawa at Universitaets Spital in Zurich, a much more unpleasant experience, in that he threw us out of his office when we suggested that we would be seeking a second opinion.  Shocked Angry  Needless to say we would recommend steering clear of him if possible.

I can honestly say that I have never met a greater team than the staff in Boston.  Dr. Scott is, in my opinion, the best physcian hands down.  The ICU team was so very wonderful.  Especially, Whitney.  I would never have made it without her.
Dr. Scott has the best "bed-side-manner" I have ever seen.  He explained everything fully and used words I could understand.  He truly takes a personal interest in his patients and is still in contact with me today.
Not enough praise for him and his team.

Dr. Scott operated on my son in October 2003.  Dr.  Scott was wonderful!  Children's Hospital Boston staff were wonderful!  I would highly recommend Dr. Scott to anyone with MoyaMoya.

On a different note -- my son will be having his first MRI/MRA in a few more months to see how well he responded to the surgery.  Wish us luck!

We have nothing but the highest praise for Dr. Scott and his entire team.  As we prepared for surgery, someone from the team checked with us daily.  Dr. Scott came in on Saturday before a Monday surgery to get acquainted and visit with us.  He (and the other members of his team) made certain we had plenty of opportunities to get all our questions answered in language that we could understand.

We did have a less than wonderful experience with some of the nursing staff the night of Sean's angiogram.  It took five hours to get a room after he was cleared from recovery.  Once we did get a room, we were shown into the room and ignored until after the Red Sox won their game (over four hours).  This appears to be an anomaly because the care and concern and attention has been exemplary since that time.

I'm glad things went well with your baby's surgery.  My son had his operation last October and we have nothing but nice things to say about Dr Scott and all the staff at Children's Hospital Boston.  I do however remember seeing many doctor's and nurses in the lounge with the huge TV watching the Red Sox play.  We were there when the Red Sox were in the playoffs.  We still got the best of care.  As a matter of fact, we're going back to Boston this Friday for a followup -- and yes, the Red Sox will be in the playoffs again -- and yes, we're now Red Sox fans.  Wish us luck -- and good luck to you and yours...

My niece, Erin, will be having her bilateral surgery with Dr.Scott on Monday, November the 8th.  Her entire family, which consists of several aunts, uncles and 13 cousins, would greatly appreciate any prayers and/or words of encouragement that any of you reading here could spare.

Much love and blessings to all who have been touched by this awesome site!!!

My son Charlie was diagnosed with left sided MM in February of '01.  Six weeks post diagnosis, he was in Boston undergoing surgery by Dr. Scott.  We couldn't have selected better qualities in a physician than those already possessed by Dr. Scott.  He surrounds himself with a wonderful support staff.  Charlie is monitored on a yearly basis as we're watching to see what happens with the right side of his brain.  As of this posting, he has experienced signifcant narrowing to the right anterior cerebral artery.  Recent MRI/MRA films were Fed Exed to Dr. Scott for his assessment.  Without fail over the last three and a half years, Dr. Scott has responded to my e-mails within 24 hours, sometimes even less time than that.  We highly recommend Dr. Scott and Boston Children's Hospital!

I am new to this board, as is my wife.  Our son is 17 years old, and has had 2 strokes.

Michael was born with several different ailments, including neurofibromatosis and hydrocephalis.  <sp>

There is so much that I could go into, that I would simply be typing for the rest of the night.  Cheesy  We are awaiting a phone call from Dr. Scott and will no doubt be planning a trip to Boston in the near future.

Today, we got an e-mail from Dr. Scott.  He initially wanted a consultation.  My wife called his office in Boston and asked if Dr. Scott could return her call.  We are hoping for an arternative, rather than drive 5-6 hours just to have a consult and drive back home.   Shocked

Dr. Scott called my wife within an hour! ;Grin

He is leaving for vacation tomorrow, (ROFL), but wants us to send him all of Michael's recent MRI/MRA/shunt series films and he will call us again after he can look them all over.

I was just extremely impressed that he returned her call so fast!

I guess that gives us a few more weeks to drill all you fine folks with questions!!!  LOL

I HIGHLY praise Dr. Scott and his team.  My son, Matthew, had his surgery on Sept. 7, 1999.  He was seven years old at the time -- and is now 13!!!

Dr. Scott's team got us moving faster than we ever expected.  They are wonderful.  To this day -- I feel BADLY about how much our insurance forced him to reduce his pay.

Our  daughter Mara was diagnosed with MoyaMoya
1 month after her third birthday. We had been to Pittsburgh Children's Hospital and were eventually sent to Dr. Scott. We were scheduled for surgery 3 days later.  Mara had her surgery in June 2004 and just had her 1 year follow up appointment with Dr. Scott in July of 2005. I am happy to inform that she is now doing wonderful. I would reccommend Dr. Scott to anyone. In my eyes he is truly an angel in a bowtie. We were treated wonderfully by his entire staff and everyone at Boston's Children's Hospital. He is truly a miracle worker and I am thankful every day that there is someone as wonderful as him to help all of the families in the same situation as us. He is truly wonderful at what he does and you can see his genuine concern for all of the patients he cares for.He is also wonderful at keeping in touch via any e-mails you send him. He is the best of the best in my eyes!!!  Cheesy        Mandy, Mara's Mom

My name is Dorothy, my son is 10 and we are from NY (Albany) and just had the bilateral surgery on both sides of the his head on monday.  The surgery went very well, the only problem we are running into know is he is vomitting.  This is a problem only in the morning.  My question is, has any one gone through this problem.  It is like he is having morning sickness.
Also, with the time Dr. Scott has spent with my son, I could not have asked for a better angel than he.  He was wonderful and I would defenitly recommend him to any one.  The team, the staff everyone was great.  Thanks for the help.

Our daughter Allyson, 1,  was operated on by Dr. Scott on March 28 of this year.  We have the highest praise for Dr. Scott, his team, and the entire staff at the hospital.  Everyone was great during our stay and I would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat.

I definitely think that Dr. Scott has hands of gold.  He is truly a miracle and I am thankful everyday for what he has done for our family and continues to do for other families.  He is amazing at what he does and he genuinely cares for all of his patients and their families.  He is definitely the best of the best.

We are based in England and recently sent an e-mail to Dr Scott about our daughter who has been diagnosed with moyamoya. Within 2 hours we had a reply and an e-mail conversation over the course of the next day or two.

We were amazed at the speed at which a Doctor of his reputation got back to us!

Hello All - My 12 year old son just fnished his second Moya Moya surgery. His first was October 2005. He recovered completely. We are hoping the same for the other side he just got done. He was diagnosed at age 5 with migranes but the MRI/MRA's showed nothing and then got increasingly worse in September of 2005 and his wonderful Nuerologist in Bethesda, MD Dr. Elizabeth Latimer diagonosed it right away after a MRI and sent us to Boston, MA to see Dr. Scott. He is absolutely the best surgeon ever. He made my son feel so comfortable and Boston Children's Hospital was so wonderful from the security to all the nurses to Dr. Scott's incredible team. We are very grateful that we had Dr. Scott for Julian's surgery. I would highly recommend Dr. Scott to anyone. He is Class A as doctors go. I am so glad to see others had a great experience as well. I wish anyone that has this rare disease in there family has such great results as we did. DR SCOTT AND BOSTON CHILDRENS HOSPITAL ARE THE BEST!!!!

Hi everyone,

I just had my two surgeries with Dr. Scott, and he was simply amazing.  Not only incredibly talented, but he couldn't be nicer.  I would definitely recommend having the surgeries.  If you have MM, don't just wait and monitor it -- it's only going to get worse.

I was diagnosed with MM in late August 2008, and had the surgeries on December 22nd and 30th, 2008.  And here I am, typing on the computer -- it's amazing.

If you have any questions to ask about the surgeries (I had pial syangiosis (sp) rather than the bypass), I'd be happy to answer them.
And best wishes and good luck to everyone diagnosed -- you can get through it.

Ive never net Dr Scott in person (medicaid wont pay for us to go to Boston) but ive talked with him a few times on the phone. I just wanted to say how nice & caring he is. On a whim i called his office after hours one night and the very next day his office was calling me. Later that evening he called me personaly asking if there was anything he could do for us even though Ethan wasnt his patient. After meeting with the surgeon here in OK i called Dr Scott again because i had never heard of Dura Inversion and he explained it to me and told me about the success at Houson Childrens Hosp with this procedure. He also wanted me to let him know how everthing went after the sugreries. After dealing with team after team of doctors, and surgeons with a god complex it was really nice to meet a surgeon who generally cared about his patients. I would recomend him ANYDAY!!!

Hi there...
I'm new to the board as I have just been diagnosed with MM.
Doing what everyone does and jumping on the web and doing as much research as possible...Smiley
I live in Boston and have been working with Dr Chris Olgilvy and the reviews over at his thread are a bit scary...
So when I saw this thread I called over to Dr Scotts office to see if I could schedule a consultation asap.
And his answering service said that he treated children only...I am 39.
Does anyone on here have any references from adults that have worked with him?
Any and all comments are welcome...
Thanks
Tony D

Hi Tony -

I saw Dr. Scott for my surgeries.  I was 29 at the time - but he sees adults up to age 35.  I know he's trained lots of doctors, though, so perhaps  he can recommend someone over at Bringham's and Womens - maybe Dr. Scott even has privilges there.  When I went for my surgeries, I was given the option to go to Bringham's or Children's (I stuck with Childrens).  Good luck to you!

Just spoke to Dr Scott, I scheduled a consultation with him and he then recommended a Dr Day at Brighams if I decide to go with surgery...
Anyone have any word on Dr Day?
