Dr. Fredric Meyer is great at the STA-MCA bypass and encephalomyosynangios.  He makes sure you ONLY loose the nessasary hair for the surgery. He also talks to like you are human not a hunk of meat to be experimented on.  The nicest group of people I have ever had the pleaser of working with. I will post later a photo of my self  to show every one how little hair I lost!

I agree with everything that Becky said.  Cara even wonders when she'll see Dr. Meyer again....I told her a year from her second surgery...when he does the follow up tests.   If I could I would post a picture of Dr. Meyer with Cara but not sure how to attach a picture to this.

Dr. Meyer is an amazing surgeon.  He is very straight forward and explains the procedure and risks thoroughly, however he has a very gentle nature.  He is very concerned with the cosmetic side of surgery (shaves hardly any hair, aims for small incisions), but he does a fantastic job on the technical part as well.  I recently went back for a checkup and I got a great report.  I don't have to go back for another checkup for 3-5 years!  Dr. Meyer definitely knows what he is doing!

Does he do the surgry on adults and children?  Do you know how many he has done?  What coverage did you have to pay for this?  My neuro at UNMC (Nebraska)- I don't have much faith in.  I am going to be seing him on Wednesday and I think I am going to ask him to refer me to Dr. Meyer.  He seems to be the person closest to me with experience!  Has anyone gotten both sides done by him?  I have sooooooooo many questions!

He has done all people and I think over 200K of perople with STA-MCA or symilar surgerys. I think he was AMAZING!!! I barely have a scar. He didn't have to shave my head just his insion line. I TOTALY recomend him. He is exreamly knowagable and HE LOOKS you in the EYEs while he talks to you and your family. He answered ALL of our concerns. It was covered under my United Health Care insurance. Gook luck!! Write down all your questions so you don't forget one. Keep me posted!

Just got back from my "wait and see neuro"  I am so disgusted!!  But, that is a post for another area!  Becky, how did you get referred to Dr. Meyer.  My neuro won't refer me because he doesn't believe in the surgery.  I showed him the email from Stanford and he just laughed.  He literally LAUGHED.  His response was.."He's a nuerosurgeon, of course he wants to operate."  Then he tells me they have done the surgery RIGHT THERE at UNMC, but won't tell me the name of the Dr.  He won't refer me for an angio either, says I don't need it.  I am seriously getting worried that I will die before I get treatment.  Again, that is a post for another area.  I just found out my 1st cousin had 2 strokes last month, and "they" can't figure out why.  He' s 2 years YOUNGER than I am.  ANYBODY, please HELP ME!!!
God Bless You ALL

OH MY GOD!!!!! I am SO SORRY your nurologist is an iddit!!!!!!!Just go to another clinic you are covered in and bring your stanford stuff. You can also ASK your coverage directly and say this IS a life saving effort to see if you can go to the Mayo. The guy you are seeing not is NOT QUALIFIED!!!!! Please look in the Surgens with buypass Exp to find someone closer to you. i will pray you find some one and soon. I would drop eveyrthing to find some one. DO not give up thier is a way. I also believe there is a way DR. Stingberg can help get you out to see him and may have the surgery there too. I don't know who has done this but some one did from this site.

I will pray for you . PLEASE keep us ALL posted.

Thank you for posting a new thread about me.  I appreciate the care and concern you all have for me on here.  God Bless You All!!!  So, would I just get referred to the nuero dept. at Mayo or would I need to get referred to a specific doctor.  If I need to identify a specific doctor, how would I know which one.  There are a couple at Mayo that have been recommended on this site.  If I have to drive to mayo and show up in there ER to get there, I will.  I am DETERMINED to get there, I just need to know if there is a referal process and which Dr.  BTW, Mayo seems to be the closest to me with Dr.s that have experience.  They also appear to have a process for financial assistance for those that can't afford the bills (me!).  That is basically how I came to decide on Mayo- location, experience, and expense.  (Their website says they provide care regardless of ability to pay)   In chat the other night, I was chatting with someone who mentioned a completely different Dr at mayo.  Can't remember the name though, other than he is a doogie howser type!

Yes there are two there at the Mayo and BOTH are good. I say Dr. Meyer. I was refered by the nurologist that the nuroradiologist who diagnosed me refered me to. So I am sorry I cannot be more spacific about how it was done. I would call one of the numbers listed here and see if you can set up an appointment on your own. Please keep us informed. Good luck!!!

Ok, so does anyone here know how many bypas surgeries this Dr. has done?  Dr. Meyer and another, Dr. Nussbaum are reasonably close to me and both have done the surgery, but I don't know the extent of their experience.  A few people on here have recommended each of them.  I need to make a decision fairly quickly.  Thanks all!
Glod Bless

Dr. Meyer has done before my surgery over 200,000 surgerys!!! I am sure he has done even more by now.  I personaly have not talked to Dr.Nussbaum or know how may he had done.  I LOVE Dr. MEYER!!!!! I am MEDICATION FREE (excluding 81mg of asprin daily) after 3 years!!!!!!! I may get a migraine once every 3 months. I DO NOT have a visiable Scar. He did not have to shave my head for the surgery.  I had one check up with him 6 months after my surgery and I had 100% blood flow back from 40% from before!!!!!!! DR.MEYER IS A GREAT Alternitive if you can aford to go to stanford.

Michele,
Hey I am going to Dr. Mejer on the 18th of September.  I just called his number that I saw a link from the you tube video.  And got a hold of his nurse that in turn transferred me to the appointment desk.   The lady at the appointment desk was real nice and I was able to get an appt three weeks or a month later.   And she checked my insurance and everything right over the phone.   I have ppo though so i don't need a referral.  But it is not like standford where you have to have a referral from a doctor.   They will take you in and you bring any xrays or mris you have.   So it is pretty nice.  I can't wait to go.  Cause I am tired of not doing anything.  I can't work, drive, or even take a walk or exercise.  I  had to 2 stroke symptoms.  And if I do anything to get exausted then I get paralysis on my left side.  So I couldn't get PT or anything cause I did after the first one and they think I had my second one cause of the PT.   So it sucks!!!!   If you need anymore info just let me know.  I will let you know how the appt goes!!!
