Wristbands
Dec 10th, 2004 at 3:10pm

A while ago Hillary mentioned ordering car magnents for moyamoya awareness.  They were similar to the "Support our Troops" and "Breast Cancer" ribbon magnents.

I had another thought - how about wristbands?  I think we've all seen the Lance Armstrong yellow wristbands for cancer.  I've seen them in many colors - for many causes.  I'm wondering how many people would be interested in a MM wristband?  I was thinking black or grey with "Moyamoya Awareness" imprinted on them.  What does everyone think?  I e-mailed for a price quote and will let you know when I have more information.

I think that would be a great idea! My husband works for the American Red Cross and they have red wrist bands that say give blood. I will be interested in how much they cost. Ann

Shari...that would be the coolest....I'd love it in black !!!  I was looking at all the people in Vegas (I was there yesterday for a company Christmas party - my office is there) and MANY of them had the yellow ones.  Let me know if you find out about them, price and information.   Just realized you will be heading to Boston...wishing you all the luck while you are there...look forward to hearing about your trip when you return.

Sounds good to me.  I would be interested.  Would there be any interest in bumper stickers?

My mom had the idea of bumper stickers that say "I know someone with moyamoya.  To learn more go to www.moyamoya.com."

Anyone have opinions?

Well, turns out the first place I looked for the wristbands is too expensive.  We would need a minimum purchase of 1000 bands at 89 cents each - which is $890.00.  Plus there is a one time set-up fee of about $40.00.  I'll continue to look for better prices...

hey, i would be interested in this as well....as soon as i move i planned on getting quotes on the ribbons again as well....i think they were about 2.00 each, if thats the case then i'll order some and just sell them to you all at the same cost as what i paid for them, i'm interested in both....

Shari...right after I saw your post I did my own search and found a source that would make them 99 cents each for minimum of 200 !!!!   Too good to be true ?!...but none in black...just various of colors...coolest thing....got an hour and two to wait up for my boys anyway so am going back on and search...print up some sources and see if I can find that 99 cent each for minimum of 200 ...see what they offer...some have printed on or embossed like the lance armstrong one.    xoxoxo  CarasMOM

Shari...

look at :

http://www.reminderband.com

for 20 to 120 bands = 2.50 each
for 140 to 240 bands = 2.00 each
for 260 to 1000 bands = 1.50 each
and no set up fees or mold fees either.

Available in 11 colors, too.   I looked at 22 sources...and so far this one is best.   There are "rubber" versions but the silicone is better which is what Lance Armstrong bands are....and the above is silicone, too.

What would we put on it...."PUFF of HOPE"  (from puff of smoke ???)  or something else unique.

Cheesy,  CarasMOM

I don't care wich color you pick, but don't get the orange one,Here in the Netherlands we already have orange rspect to all wristbands and evereybody will think I am wearing one of those. The orange ones are for the numerous cases of what we call useless violence.A couple of weeks ago a famous director was murdered, maybe you know the name Theo van Gogh? He was famous here for his movie "Submission"

About the wristbands, I have no idea what it would cost me, since I live abroad., and you woudl have to send it to me.

Btw, DJ I love what you have done with the smileys, they look funny with those hats!

Hi

Just my opinion on the wristband colour.  Black armbands in Australia are worn by all sorts of sporting personalities when someone they know has died (it is considered a respectful kind of tribute).

Just thought you should know.  But I think it would be a fantastic idea in any other colour.  Maybe grey as CarasMOM suggested for "puff of smoke" or "puff of hope".

Been thinking of this one more.... as "MM" is rare and seems like no one knows of it unless they are associated with it....the name "MoyaMoya" should be used somehow....maybe "MoyaMoyaMiracle"  It allows people to "see" the word MoyaMoya...and it is a miracle what they do to help those of us with MM.  Everyone I have talked to always say "it is amazing what they can do to help Cara".   As for color...should be colorful and uplifting.  The more I look at the other bands...those are more common illnesses...and they use a word that is a positive one.   I'm afraid the "puff of hope" sounds too much like little bit of hope...not my intention...because I feel we all can excel with this disorder if we get on the right track.  Most common colors at the moment is pink and yellow...the orange and black will be kept off the list.  I would be happy to look further into this and get this started if anyone interested.   hugs, CarasMOM

I'm happy to do it - as my original intentions for this post.  I'm just waiting until after the new year.

The reason for the wristbands is to make people aware.  My original intention was to imprint "Moyamoya Awareness" on the bands.  Does anyone have any objections?

As for color, I was thinking of silver - since we nixed black and orange.  Silver - as in silver lining - as in the saying, "Every cloud has a silver lining."  Again, any objections??  Just in case, I would need a second color choice.  One I have not seen is baby blue - like the sky.

I haven't seen blue or silver and either sounds great.  I'm currently sporting a pink one for breast cancer awareness.  I've had lots of people ask me about it and where they could get one of their own.  It's exciting to think about the same response for an MM band!!!  Count me in!

I think silver or blue would be great, and I do think it should have moyamoya on it in some form.

Count me in as well.  I don't care what color they are, but I will purchase several.  I think this is a GREAT idea and will get the name out and make more people aware what all of us are going through. Wink

Ok - I checked out the webside that CarasMom gave me - great site - very affordable!

Looks like baby blue will be the color.  I now need to get an estimate of how many bands we want to order.  Please let me know how many you would like to order.  Thanks!!

They would be about $2.75 each (it's an additional 25cents each band for more that 14 characters) plus shipping and handeling.

Please let me know size too!  They come in 2 sizes:

Adult: 8 3/8 " (fits most adults)
Youth:  7 3/8" (fits most kids and teenagers + small-framed adults)

Great Idea Shari!

I would like to order 10 for now in the adult size. And just wondering, how easy would it be to reorder? I know many people at my church and school would be more than willing to support awareness once they see mine. I am so excited about this!!
