Failed hearing screening for the 2nd time
Aug 9th, 2007 at 1:32pm

My daughter had her 5 year old kindergarten physical in June and failed the hearing screening in her left ear. She had a follow up screening yesterday and was only able to hear out of her left ear with the volume as loud as it would go. She had an EDAS performed last June 2006 on her left side. Has anyone else had hearing loss due to surgery? I don't think it would be caused from all her strokes she had before her surgery because they always caused only problems on her right side. They now have scheduled her an audiology hearing evaluation for Aug. 24th.
Thanks,
Lori

Lori,
I can't say Tyler's hearing loss is due to his surgery, since he got his hearing aids the year before his surgies. However, since Tyler and I both wear two hearing aids, I felt I could give you some moral support on this.

I know how frustrating it can be to know your child is having trouble hearing. Just teach her to look at people when she talks to them and to make sure they face her when they talk to her. Both of my kids picked this up from me, since it was the only way they could be sure I had heard them when they were small. I feel these are just good communication habits, no matter what hearing level a person has. Even my daughter, who has sensitive hearing, has mentioned how this helps her understand people better.

If it is found that there is need for a hearing aid, believe me they have such high tech hearing aids out there that you will forget she is wearing one.

My prayers will be with you,
Rena
