Failed EDAS
Jan 2nd, 2008 at 4:10pm

Hey there, Its me,
Im Twin b, my identical twin and I went thru double
bypass surgeries 3 years ago. Laura is doing great
with no problems at all . She had both an STA-mca and an EDAS an both sides because Dr Rose said she needed all the help she could get. She went second, after me. I had an STA-MCA on the left and EDAS on the right which took 8 hours and He admitted would be a really painful recouvery. He was unable to find and vessels that were not affected by moyamoya.
well, I never really recoverd from this Rt. side. I continued to have symptoms and pain . I  continue to take medication even today. I take topamax for migraines and siezures, effexor for depression etc,and
1 month ago, an angiogram confirmed that the EDAS on my RT side had failed. I am devastated. My neurologist here does not want to try another bypass and just put me on mre drugs. Im sending my films to Dr stienberg as a least resort. Is there anyone out there that shares my story?    Hopeless in Houston

wow how old are you?? why did the dr choose edas for the rt side and sta for the other??? are you having daily symptoms?? i just had my second edas 12/14, right now i guess it's ok other than headaches slightly and some pain on the incision, but that's all for me, also just some memory loss and some trembling, every now and then....let me know what dr. steinberg says??? good luck

Well Dr. Rose couldnt find an artery godd enough for a direct bypass. So,  he opted for an EDAS an found 2 small ones  an used the flap to help them out. But I just had problems from the beginning. Im 43 years old and my twin and I were living purely on collaterals when we found out by accident. We never had a stroke or any siezures and were completely healthy when I had acar accident that required am MRI/MRA and the rest  went from there. I want to know if anyone has ever had a third bypass?

wow what a way to find out about MM...but at least you caught it before any symptoms.  even worse that you didn't have a good artery to take for the by-pass.  so you're now looking into another surgery or at least ur options.  go for it, since it's ur body...let me know how that goes...

I had what the doctors called the "flapped" by-pass revascularization surgery in 2003 at the University of Iowa. I had the left side done. I have been stroke free since but would still like to contact Dr. Steiberg to see if I have done everything I can to improve my life and live longer.
Take care, Sharon
