anyone experience muscle twitches after surgery??
Jan 2nd, 2008 at 5:24pm

anyone experience muscle twitches after surgery?? it's not just one muscle it's the entire body or at least upper body then lower body twitches. y whole body would just jump, like if i'm lying down or sitting up...i'd hit someone if they'd be sitting close to me, hehe.  it's been continuous for at least a couple times a days, it's just something i never experience for my first surgery but this one.  anyone else experience this type of twitches?????

I get them every once in awhile.  I never really thought of them as connected to Moyamoya, but you never know.  I didn't think the splotches on my arm were related to Moyamoya, but now I know others have it too (forgot the name of the syndrome).

Now you have me thinking.  Mine are not the whole body but it'll be lower back or side and all of a sudden and in a very 'jerky' motion.  I didn't have them before my diagnosis/surgeries.

ramdom all over, anywhere body twitches (muscle fasciculations) was one of the cronic symptoms I had with my Moyamoya the few years leading up to my diagnosis pre-surgery!

Oh...and they can be going concurrently at multiple parts of the body at the same time!

I still experience them now....post surgery, but they have subsided significantly. Before I was a human "mexican jumping bean" LOL.

I never received any medical explanation for them????

smiles and happy new years! Diane

I don’t know if this is what you’re referring to or not, but this thread discussed involuntary movement earlier this year.

I hope it helps.

Yep, I get them all the time, especially when my body is relaxed, its not as bad as yours though, it feels like a little jump, most of the time in my legs...sort of like when you dream you are falling....I've asked my doctors about it, neurologist said it is probably damage from the brain hemorrhage...just one of the things we have to deal with  Smiley

My daughter had double (right and left) surgery done 4 years ago in June.  She had no muscle twitches after.  Just migraines once in awhile after her incisions healed.  She was very fortunate.

so basically most drs. just say deal with and it's just another thing to deal with, it guess that's minor....hmmm and some have taken seizure meds, do they help??? it's been happening everyday for me but it has decreased slightly.  a couple a people have written back and said that they've been banging their head with drs. trying to find out....so what's the next thing??

Hey Girlfriend...

I get them in my calves every once in a while especially when I'm relaxed or really tired and just kicking back.  It looks so weird, especially when you see the muscle start to twitch.  I've learned to just deal with it since it doesn't really bother me.

Hope you are feeling better.  Will call you soon!! Smiley

Me kealoha pumehana,
Jan

I had twitching in my arms and legs after my surgeries, but it cleared up within a couple weeks.  It's interesting to learn that it can be a long term problem for some MM patients.

i'm wondering if it's more a nerve impingement than with the actual brain, as a side effect when surgery is done.  because i majorily kick out or my total ankle twitchesand yes just recently i've been having cramping in my lower body..as i read, some of you have small muscles twitches to larger twitches...hmm i just gets my wondering if it is just a nerve thing...any thoughts??

i'm nearly at my two year anniversary for my second surgery (woo) but i did have heaps of twitches and stuff way long ago, sometimes big ones but more often not.... i was on dilantin for a while - anitconvulsant medication - but the effects of that stuff longterm is not good, particularly on the liver... but yeah it did just stop at some point. how long ago was your surgery?
