Believe Dr. Steinberg!
Apr 3rd, 2008 at 10:16pm

Just wanted to let everyone know that was so kind to post all of the useful information under “Who do you believe!?” that Dr. Steinberg did Tommy’s surgery on April 2nd and he is doing fantastic!  Tommy went into surgery at 12noon, it took almost 7 hours, 1-½ hours in recovery and then to ICU for 24 hours.  He went from negative four blood flow and what was flowing was flowing in the wrong direction to 28 percent after his bypass.  I woke up 2:30 in the morning, called ICU and was able to talk to Tommy for a couple of minutes, he sounded good.  By 10 he was kidding with the nurses and watching TV.

Thank you so much to Jill in Dr. Steinberg’s office for all that she’s done since the middle of January!  She has been able to calm me, Gary and Tommy down at a moments notice, we’re forever grateful.

Also DJ – your Mom is the best!  She happened to be at Stanford and was terrific to Gary and I when Tommy was in surgery.  Talking, listening and explaining; she’s great, you must be as proud of her as she is of you.

I’ll keep you all posted and thanks again for the wonderful support system, I don’t know what would have happened if it wasn’t for all of you on this site.  I shiver to think about it!

Hi Calee -
Thank you for sharing the wonderful news of Tommy's successful surgery. It's a heck of a trial, getting the diagnosis, figuring out what to do and then getting the job done - you did great, congratualtions! I'm sure Tommy will have a quick recovery and soon be back to doing the things he loves.
I thank God every day for the talented, kind, and loving miracle workers at Stanford.
For each of us the best part of the whole ordeal is being on this end of it. Nothing but smooth sailing from here on ...  Wink

Hi Calee,

GOOD NEWS!

I know you are relieved and I am so glad to hear Tommy is doing well.  The come back amazes me when you think of brain surgery and the length of surgery.  When one has proper blood flow and it is flowing in the right direction, it makes all the difference in the world.

What amazed me is some of the MM patients after surgery and being released from the hospital went to dinner, shopping and sitseeing.  WOW!  It is different for everyone but it certainly sounds like Tommy is well one his way to a great recovery.  Everyday will be a new and better day for Tommy.

We too are grateful to Dr. Steinberg and the entire Standford MM team.  They are fabulous!  Because of Dr. Steinberg and the Stanford MM team, my brother has taken a 360 turn from 3 years ago.  I'm still in awe of their abilities to turn a MM patient around to almost the opposite of what they were when they arrived.  They are the best! When you have a knowledgeable and skilled surgeon like Dr. Steinberg and a synchronized team behind the scenes, this is the positive outcome one experiences.

Life is good!

Take care and keep us posted on Tommy's progress.

Hugs,

Lore
