Pregnancy questions
Dec 3rd, 2009 at 1:02pm

I have MM. My husband and I are thinking of having a baby. I was wondering if anyone has any infromation about if MMers could have a natural birth or c-section. My neurologest has said I could do a natural birth and if it is to stressful the do an enmergency c-section, but I don't know, i am scared. Has anyone been in that situation or has had a natural birth and they are fine? My nuerologest also said that it also depends on how my system handels the pregnancy will determin if the natural option is still ok. Has anyone been on bed rest for any lenth of duration of the pregnancy.

I posted pretty much the simular post a few months back that you can find about natural child birth. My nuerologist said no to natural child birth. Either way, you want to do what is best for you and your baby and your health. I would say that pregnancy is never out of the question, be safe and think about what is best for you. Be educated, be safe and just be more careful than most people - that is what we will do.

I found out I had MM after I had my second child. I had a planned c-section, since my first son was born due to complcations, from my OBGYN not listening to me and failure to give me blood pressure medicine. I Had delivered my daughter by planned C-Section, which 2.5 weeks after I had her, I had a major stroke, so in my case it was REALLY good I had her c-section, if I hadnt, who knows what would have happened to me! I myself was told I should NOT have anymore kids, due to my health condtions, so I went ahead and got my tubes tied, and had a abaltion, to protect myself, I have 2 wonderful kids, I need to worry about. I would say C=Section birth is jsut AS wonderful a natural birth. I would agree to educate yourself and really talk to ALL of your doctors. and c-section is seriously wonderful,

Thnak you for your responces. I have been talking with my neurologest and my OBGYN more and they have agreed that the c-section is the best option for me and the baby. I am now more concerned about the 9 months leading up to the birth. Did any one have to be on bed rest for the last month? Any migranes? I am planing on going to school during the pregnancy and then taking then following semester off of school. Is that wise or should I wait?

Becky, do you think that going to school and carrying your pregnency could bring too much mental and physical pressure to your body? Just think about it, you have to worry about mid term, paper due and such, at the same time, you have to deal lot of the changes on your body, plus don't forget your MM background.

I had my first major TIA 6 months after my son was born. As a first time mom at an elder age, I was working full time, taking care of him and the family. I'm still wondering if all the stress triggered my TIA to begin with.

Children are wonderful. They are the blessing from God. But just be careful, take it easy on yourself. Your heath should be the first priority. If you can't wait for kid, maybe you can put a hold on school?

Good luck!

Lucky Me,
Thank you for your advise. I don't know what I will do... My friend who does not have any medical issues just had her baby and these past few weeks she said have been exausting. I need to finish school. but I also want to have a baby before I am 32. I hope I will be done with school by then. I realy don't want to stop with school my memory isn't what it used to be and I am going for my batchelers in electrical engineering.

How old were you when you had your son? Have you had any more issues?

Becky,

Sorry for the late response. I've been really busy recently since I just started working for a new client since January, and wasn't able to follow the topic here for a while.

I had my son when I was 37. Now I'm marching to my big 4 next month.  Lips Sealed So I really think 32 is still very young!!!  I’m very blessed that I didn’t have any episode of TIA or any major headache since my 2nd surgery last August.  However, I’ve been feeling exhausted easily since February.  Sometimes I still feel tired right after a 8~9 hours of sleeping. Also my eyes feel sore and light headed more frequently.  I’m not sure if it’s due to the stress from the new job or my symptom is progressed.  Anyway, I’m going to Stanford for my 6 months check up next month. Will find out.

Anyway, we’re both trying to live our life to the fullest regardless of our MM condition. But just bare in mind, your health means a lot to your family and your future children. So just be careful, try not to “try too hard” in a short period of time. I knew it’s hard for some people. I’m just like that myself.  As my husband said, I always want to do too much sometimes I forgot to relax;

Take care,
LuckMe

Hi Becky
When I had my surgery in 2007, I was nearing the finalization of my divorce and had no children at that point.  I have since remarried and shortly after the wedding I became pregnant and quickly lost the baby.  I just went through my 3 year follow up and if all goes well we will try again.  The kicker is I will be 43 in sept, so I am very apprehensive.  My OB knows my sitch and has the wherewithall to refer me to a high risk OB when the time comes.  All that said, if I am not meant to have children, that is beyond my control and my husband and I are prepared for either outcome.  You have youth on your side.  I would definitely get your OB up to speed on your history and make sure you have a high risk specialist on point if needed.  Good luck!

Thank you for the responces. My husdband and I will wait for me to finish school. He doesn't want me to risk it. We are just having a hard time because our friends are all pregnet and we would like to have kids close to the same age, but health of the Baby and me are more importent.
