Risk from lifting or exercise?
Oct 29th, 2013 at 7:23am

I am still waiting an appointment at Mayo, and word from Stanford as to if they believe I have moyamoya.  What I want to know is how risky is it to lift heavy things or even to exercise.  My neurologist said it is ok, but I don't trust his advice at this point.  The radiologist found a "moymoymoya like pattern" around  my occluded right middle cerebral artery.  Soooo, while I wait I want to know if it is safe to exercise or lift.  It seems to me that the small veins would be weak and it woudl be safer to be cautious.    Does anyone know?

Before I had surgery my neurologist forbid me to exercise. She feared it might be dangerous.
I would say:Better safe than sorry.
So, don't exercise for a while.

If you have MM, it is imperative that you avoid any physical activities that will cause you to hyperventilate. That means no strenuous exercise, trying to dry your nails by blowing on them, playing wind instruments, and even something like singing should be avoided.

Anything that constricts your arteries should be avoided.

I'm sure you mean well, but this isn't entirely accurate information.  Each individual is a unique case, and these suggestions don't apply to all.

It would be best to consult your doctors.  Smiley
