Worse numbness post operative
Dec 13th, 2013 at 11:25pm

I'm a  month out after having bypass on right side.  I was told I'd get symptoms again when tired, stressed, sick or dehydrated.  I returned to work this week half time.  I've had two incidents of numbness, but it was worse than before my stroke.  Before I had some of my outer left arm and two fingers go numb.  Today my entire left arm and the left side of my face went numb for about 15 minutes.  Just to be expected and don't be afraid, though perhasp I'm overdoing...or go demand a neurologist look at me??  The Stanford nurse wrote me about an earlier incident saying it was to be expected.  But having worse symptoms than before I actually stroked scares me.

it sounds like you feel a look from your neurologist is needed.  i would encourage you to do that, it certainly won't hurt anything to make sure

I thought I'd post again because it might help others.  I think what happened was that I overdid too soon.  I returned to work too soon.  I have a very high stress job.  And I wasn't realizing how stressed I was.  The four things to watch for after surgery are stress, sickness, fatigue and dehydration.  I drink water like crazy because it is critical for us especially after surgery.  But I was an idiot when it ame to stress because I was not even realizing that was what was happening, and my body was telling me VERY directly to cool it.  So this week has been better.  Only my thumb went numb briefly when I was getting really upset about something.  So, doing my best to learn calming techniques and am still on half days.  Sorry to sounded so helpless, it just scared me.  I don't have a local neurologist that I trust yet, but have one about 45 miles away I'll be checking in with.

Revascularization can take up to 6 months to a year to fully form.  My husband was having some revascularization 4 weeks after his EDAS, but obviously not enough.  You do have to take care of yourself after surgery.  Another thing to watch is hypotension (low blood pressure).  Glad to hear you are doing better.  Smiley
