Remembering a Fine Young Man
Mar 7th, 2006 at 11:44am

Some thoughts:

This past weekend,  Arizona lost another young man to the war in Iraq. He was 22 years old and a high school friend of our son, Brian. I remember how proud he was to be part of his high school's Marine Corps ROTC. He tried many times to enlist Brian in the club, but Brian had little interest. John couldn't believe it when Brian had his stroke. The two of them would laugh about the recruiters who called our house on a regular basis to try and enlist Brian. Brian had a standard line, "I've had a stroke and 3 brain surgeries. Will that be a problem for you guys?"

Please keep the family of John Thornton in your prayers. I am again reminded that life is short.

Hi Kathy,

I'm terribly sorry to hear about Brian's friend John.  It's such a sad thing to lose someone so young, but I'm sure he lived a life to be proud of.  His family, Brian, and all who knew and loved John will definitely be in my prayers.

Kathy,

Such very sad news.  I will continue to say prayers for his family.  Life is so precious.  Makes me say thank you for each day of life God continues to give me and loved ones each day.  Smiley

Hi Kathy,

I'm sorry to hear about John Thornton. I will keep him and his family and Brian in my thoughts and prayers. Remember that heros like John keep our country great. I'm sure all are as proud of John as he was of being a part of the Marine's. We owe soldiers like John everything for keeping us safe and free.

As you may be aware, Kevin's son Nick is in Iraq on his second tour of duty. It's a tough on these young men and woman and their families.  We need to support them and not forget them. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about Nick and wonder how he is doing. It is very "nerve racking" and quite frankly, scarey.

We are reminded of how short life is and that we are never promised tomorrow and especially when a young person like John is taken away from us.

Kathy, I love Brian's response to the recruiters. That was clever!

Hugs,

Lore

Kathy

I was touched by Brian and John and continue to keep them in my prayers.  I have a son in the Army and hopefully Friday he will be on his way home from Iraq (for the 4th time).

Check out the press release on a national support our troops day.

http://www.prweb.com/releases/2006/3/prweb362087.htm

I was at a flag raising ceremony last night to support out troops.  The 16 year old girl is from our local high school.  She thought there should be a national -support out troops day - and she go it.

There were so many people and I am so poud of all of our military men and women.

Thanks for all your kind words. Sorry it has taken me this long to check back in. Unfortunately we've been occupied with some serious health issues with our 12 year old, Mathew. There are days when I'd like to just move to Costa Rica and change my name. Lore and Janice, we will keep your boys in our prayers. They are heroes in evey sense of the word.
