Piano Lessons
Jun 27th, 2006 at 9:41am

I used to play the piano - took lessons for about 10 school years starting when I was 7 (until 17).  I used to love playing - my mom used to have to tell me to STOP practicing, LOL!

Anyway, when I had my stroke that led to my MM diagnosis I got really frustrated with the piano because my fingers just didn't move the way they used to...I would play the wrong notes all the time.  I got out of practice.

Well, 3 years later, I decided to get back into practice.  I signed up for a 1/2 hour lesson at a Music Training center near my apartment - and it felt GREAT to be back at the piano bench!  Because I'm not a beginner - I think I'll take lessons maybe once every three weeks - or every month...but it was AWESOME!

Thanks...just wanted to share!

You go girl!! I'm very proud of ya for going back to it! Music lives inside ya girl, just as much as your MMD. Show us all that the love of the piano and music can overcome anything that MM dished out, cuz it's in your soul. Smiley

Good luck and have fun!

Hi Shari,

Glad to hear you made the move to go back to what you spent so many years doing. Good for you! MMD doesn't rule!

It's like Mar said "the music lives inside ya" you never forget it. You'll train those fingers to play the right notes. You can do it!

Let me know when you debut at Carneige!(sp?)

Hugs,

Lore

Wonderful! Keep it up because MUSIC can help the soul.
I hope you can play for us at a reunion one day.

Hi Shari,

I know how you feel.  I went through the same thing when I had my stroke.  I've been doing Japanese dancing for approximately 20 years.  After my stroke, I couldn't dress myself in a kimono (something I had to learn to do when I started dancing) and tried to dance and couldn't get the dances right.  Especially dances with fans and other implements.  The fans would keep falling out of my hands and my timing was totally off.  (My boyfriend said the "grace" is gone.   Smiley)  Well, it's been a year since my stroke and 3 months since my surgeries and I've started dancing again.  I feel a lot of improvement on the "grace".  At least now I'm not as stiff and will start going to practices again very soon.

Keep on practicing.....you'll do great!! Smiley Smiley

Good Luck, Shari!!

Me ke aloha pumehana (with deepest regards),
Jan

Jan -

Thank you!  We both spent so much time working on our talents it would be a shame to lose the ability!  Use it or lose it - that's what I say!  The best of luck to you too!
