My Tribute to Sleepless Nights and Rare Diseases
Jul 21st, 2006 at 9:23am

All,

Hopefully I am not the only one who occassionally has one of the sleepless nights where you mind continuosly wanders....thinking all kinds of thoughts, with the occassional "why me".....Well Wednesday night was one of those for me....however, this time I got my creative juices going and came up with the following (Please note that I am not an Emerson, Shakespear, or the like, just a humble man with 6 credit hours in creative writting)....so here goes

One more sleepless night
Sitting in my room
With thoughts of desperation and gloom
Pondering life on a dark and lonely night

Gazing out the window
Off in the distance, the soft glow
Of a candle burning bright
For why it burns I do not know

I sit and ponder why it burns so bright
To guide a loved one through the night
Or a romantic gesture between two lovers
Who sleep so gentle, under the cover
Of the darkened night.

Off in the distance burns a candle bright
Pondering life on a dark and lonely night
Sitting in my room
With thought of desperation and gloom

Off in the distance, the candle begins to flicker
As my heart beats a little bit quicker
Will my life continue burning bright
Do I have the energy to keep up the fight

One more sleepless night
Looking off into the darkness at a distant glow
For when it is my time, I do not know….

Here is too keeping up the fight.....
Have a good weekend,
Greg

I was misdiagnosed with MM in March of 2005. In January 2006, I was told it is not MM, but rather a massive restriction in the MC1 segment of my left carotid artery.

Hi Greg, great poem!    I know just how you feel.   For me the worst part about Having MM is not the physical deficits that remain from my stroke, but the daily mental battle in my mind over what is my future, am I going to have another stroke?  if so how bad.  Will I ever get a clean bill of health?

My profile statement says that I crave west and wewaxsation (Elmer Fudd).  Something that I haven't felt in 41/2 years.
I just go with a simple prayer,   "Gods will be done and give me the strength and peace to accept that"

I know that I speak for many.

     Take care Greg.

ps I lost your number during a rare cleaning of my desk.     Please get it to me ASAP.

Hi Greg,
What a beautiful poem!!! Well done.
It saddens me though to see people experiencing the negative side of life because of this MM.
I always try to see things positively as this helps me get through all the hard things that life has to offer. I have a copy of the poem "Desiderata" stuck up on my study wall, which states the line:... "with all it's sham and drudgery and broken dreams it is still a beautiful world"
I hope that you get to the bottom of your health issues soon, and Tom the same goes for you.

Yeah we all experience those sleepless nights, but mine are spent mulling over my oldest who is autistic - I worry about the future that is on offer for him and I could give up and fall in a heap more times than I would like, but I have to be positive and bright as we are all mortal, and we don't know when our time will be, so we have to live it to the fullest every day. I try to take time  out to smell the flowers, and my husband and I always try to be driving along the beach sometime during the week so that we can watch the sunset. Sounds corny but it works.
Tom you need to come down under for a "west and wewaxation" trip - life is so laid back here!!
Hope all goes well with both of you
Moira
