Hi Mike,
We did some fundraising a while ago as my oldest is autistic and we spend an absolute fortune every month in one on one therapy for him.
We approached our local rotary club and they took up his cause, supplied the venue for a quiz night and auction, and the bank account for all funds raised (So that we wouldn't be liable to pay tax on it)
I wrote letters to all businesses I could think of with a description of Cayle and what was involved with his therapy, and got replies from 90% of the people I approached. We got wine donated, aerial flights, balloon flights, hair dresser gift vouchers, clothes vouchers from a couple of designer boutiques, motorcycle rides, limited edition models, gym memberships etc... Then we got 300 people together for a quiz night at $20 per head, and a couple of celebrities that I knew to host the auction. It was a huge success and we raised over $10,000!
We did have a picture of Cayle up on the stage and we got an expert to discuss his autism with the audience. We also ran a couple of raffles (I got 100 instant lottery tickets donated and we sold tickets for $1 to win them),
and another with a $50 note and number squares from 1 to 100 and sold tickets for each square for $2.
Just a couple of ideas for you to use in your fundraiser for Robert
Kind regards
Moira

Thank you I will pass along your suggestion, as I am not invloved in the planning of this, I do know we will be having a jail and bail, we have had a older pick up donated to be raffled of on a card raffle(sell a deck of cards for 10.00 per cards then draw the winner from another deck example you buy the ace of spades and the aces of spades is drawn as the winner you win) also have had 3 hunting rifles donated, 2 cases of teddy bears, 2 tickets to the closest  casnio, and just tonight found out that we have a package of 4 VIP Packages for Saginaw Valley State football Game on its way all of this has come about in a week with minamal advrertising...oh let us not forget that we are close to 1500.00 in collections from six donation jugs that have been out for about a week and a half....as I said I have lived here for 14 years am a member of the  Ambulance and Fire Department....But until your on the receiving end of this Islands 1003 year round residents generosity as well as everyone elses  you dont understand how humbling it is..........

Today is October 1st, The main fundraiser is next Saturday, there are several off shoot fundraisers being planned aswell, Today we are walking a new bridge here on the island for five dollars ahead  and the proceeds going for Robert, Also the local Party Store and The Video Supplier has put together a 3 day rent a movie thon were all proceds from rentals go to Robert, with triple the amount being donated on the frist day rental receipts, The high school leadership corp is putting together a walk of warmth for Robert. The cash donations before any of this has totaled more then 4,000.00. I have to keep reminding myself of the fact that I live on a island with only 1003 year round residents...its all just so unbelievable.

Just keeping everyone posted

Mike

Hello Island.....

there is always good that comes out of the most difficult of situations....your whole community has been pulled together for a common cause....many have bonded a deeper friendship. Your immediate family is taken back at the outpouring of sympathy and support. You will all be the better for it.

Now just imagine Robert and his brother, years from now....where will they be? I'll wager.....they will be in a leadership role, setting high goals....being a team player and certainly sensitive young men.....after experiencing first-hand what a REAL community and caring for your neighbor really means.

this glass is not half full.....it is downright overflowing with unseen blessings.

And best of all.....Robert will be in a better place after his successful surgery!

A big hello to Robert.....from his MM friend...diane : )

I just went over to Robert's web site:

www.caringbridge.org .....then go to "visit"...then enter "robertpettit"

(I figured it should be posted again..so no one has to search your past posts to look for it)

the pictures were great and looks like you had a nice day for the bridge walk (nice looking bridge too).By now, Robert is probably the most famous boy on the Island...LOL

I will put the genorosity of this Island against anyplace, we held Roberts fundraiser yesterday, it included raffles , card raffles and a live auction the one day total was over $14,000.00 dollars, I am awe struck and humbled by the people here and the support we have received both emotional as well as financial.
