update on Brent
Jun 29th, 2004 at 9:16am

I told Brent I would post an update on him.

It was really good to sit and talk with him yesterday, He and I have been talking on MSN Messenger for a week or so before he left to go to Stanford.

Brent is frustrated because he too lost his ability to speak right now, I believe he knows what he wants to say, just can't say the words, but, he sure can write the words.  He brought a clipboard with him and would write something down to share with us.

I just wanted to ask you all to keep him in your prayers, I know he is frustrated, and can't wait to get out of the hospital.

thanks
Hillary

God is with you, Brent.  Hang in there.  You will do just fine.  You've made it so far.  You're almost done with hospital stuff, then you'll be home in no time.  You will be back to your usual everyday activities really soon.  I'll keep you in my prayers.

HIllary--thanks for the update on Brent..give him all my love......I know first hand what it is like to be unable to speak, but to have all your thoughts seem to be ok...for about 3 of the 5-6 days that I couldn't speak, I could not even comprehend what people were sayihg....it was like a bad foreign movie that made no sense....and, I could not even write, and forget about reading....words did not form sentences......I tried to write TYLENOL, EXTRA STRENGTH because my head hurt so badly......I tried to act out by charades the pain in my head.....some of the nurses got it right away......the others did not.....I only started to write on Friday, June 11th,and my surgery was on the 3rd....I can totally empathize with Brent's frustration.......PLEASE let him know that he will be fine within a short period of time....my speech was halting and strange from about June 12th (when I basically started to speak) until June abut June 20th....there is a light at the end of the tunnel.....Tell him that he will be fine....thank God he did not have a stroke or a subdural hematoma.........we continue prayers for him.......Faith will make him whole.........Love, Pat Kiss Kiss

Brent -

We're all thinking of you!  Like Pat, I too know first hand what it's like to have aphasia and I agree, it's really frustrating.  You'll get there though!  I have faith and confidence!!  Hang in there!

Brent, sorry I was not able to meet you.  If you are still in Stanford, come by and see me.  We will be here until 7-15 after staple removal.  I have to have the left side done this Wed 7-7 and am not looking forward to any of the side effects of losing speech.  I am happy that you were able to write.  I will ask my sis to bring me a notepad for that purpose.  I am keeping you in my prayers and am happy that you made it here.  You can now continue with your life and no waiting around for something to happen - that was the worst! Cry  Do you too have a shiner?  Ihave been teasing my hubby stating that it looks like he is practicing his physical therapy on me ;Grin; we must keep the personality going right now.  I hope that you have great 4th of July and encourage you to come by and visit me in the B3 unit.   Smiley Kristina

After seeing how many people had trouble with speech, I am wondering if Tyler went thru the same thing? He only cried when his head hurt, and said very little. He also had a side effect that left him unable to eat for 3 days, so I thought it was his irritablity from that, but I wonder now. I am learning so much from everyone sharing their stories. No wonder my mild, polite, boy turned into a mean, uncoopertive, monster. He had been thru other surgeries, but the MM surgery was the only one that he got so mean after. I was very glad to see him turn back to his happy go lucky self when we got home.

Brent hang in there it does all get better!
