Hi, Nancy!

that was probably me - my son, Kyle has been on aspirin therpy (40.5mg/day) most of the time since his stroke (due to MM) in Feb '97.  And, yes, we were told not to give him Ibuprofen because of the aspirin in his system.  I think it is because Ibuprofen has the same blood-thinning effect as aspirin and possibly, the combination could cause hemmoragging.  We use only Tylenol or other acetaminophen for headaches, fever.  And, bless his heart, he gets a lot of headaches!  We just put him back on Cyproheptadine to see if it will help prevent the migraines he gets.
If your daughter is on an aspirin regiment, I would definitely ask your Pediatrician/Neurologist if its OK to give her Ibuprofen.

hope this helps!  God bless,

sue

Hello all!

I have had MM for 15 years, and have always been advised to take ibuprofen. I have never been on aspirin therapy, though. Ibuprofen always helped my headaches more than anything else besides sleep!

Hello everyone

I have had Moyamoya for 40 years.  I have always been told that it's okay to take anything else from aspirin.  Why?  I do take Tylenol at nightime.
I have been taking it for years and  years.

I am taking asprin daily and too was told not to take ibuprofen. I was told to take tylenol because it does not thin your blood. This was my instructions by my nuerologist and surgeon!

Wow!  looks like we're getting conflicting stories from different Dr.s.
since they seem to have lots of experience with MM,  would someone mind asking Dr. Scott & Dr. Steinberg (if they're your Dr.) what their reccommendation is?  I'm picking up an Rx today, so I'll ask the pharmacist her opinion.

I'm sure the Ibuprofen would be more helpful with Kyle's migraines.  It'd be nice to know it's safe to use it.

I think the answer is that it is okay to use ibuprofen, as long as you aren't on aspirin also...

I checked w/ our pharmacist and her opinion was that Ibuprofen should not be used by someone who is on aspirin therapy for the reason of possible excessive bleeding.

Nancy,

Good luck with the new baby.  Please keep us posted on your delivery and after care.

AndyMac had been so nice to me when I started this board and had questions about my son who has MM too, he just turned one and had his surgeries before his first birthday.  I am so excited for you. Smiley

How is Emily doing?  We were told to keep Trey from anything but Tylenol because of the blood thinners.  He is currently on Lovenox injections but will eventually be getting back on a baby aspirin a day.

Good luck and congratulations!!!
