MM and Lupus
Mar 4th, 2005 at 6:03pm

Hi again,
I found out Monday that I have MM and now I get a phone call from my Primary Physican that I have Lupus also. I am to go to another specialist on March 17th for the Lupus and to Atlanta March 22nd for the MM. Does anyone know of the 2 diseases running together? Thanks goodness for this website- I think I might just lose it!   Tongue Thanks for any help!

Applejac,  I google searched "moyamoya and lupus".The reason I did this is because I remember when I first researched mm I remember having seen this noted as a combination that has been documented.I remembered this probably becuase my nephew's wife was diagnosed with lupus a few yrs ago.(She's doing great by the way). When I searched this it came up with many sites you may want to check out.Maybe you could get further info by contacting a dr.who may have treated this combination of diseases.I will keep you in my prayers please let us know how you make out with the specialists.

Applejac-

I dont know alot about MM and lupus but that is intresting to me that you have both. I was diagnosed with MM in 2003 and i am the only one in my family with MM but my sister recently had test done checking for lupus. Turned out that she did not have lupus but you having both definatly makes me want to look into it more. i hope you get everything figured out and let us know how it goes. also i saw that you are giong to be in Atlanta this month. I live in Atlanta so if you need anything while you are here just let me know. Would love to help out in any way!

Mary Grace & Christy,
Thanks for the info. I did the google search and actually came up with a few articles that were interesting and very helpful. Thanks! SmileyI did not even think to try that!

Christy, thanks for the offer for help when I come to Atalnta. I just may take you up on that. It is so wonderful just to have someone to talk with. There is just so much to deal with all at once.

Thanks again,

Tamara,

Boy, you've certainly been hit with a double whammy.  Keep your chin up though, and look at the bright side.  You've come to the best place in the world (IMO) for support!  And you're on the road to taking care of at least the MM.  We'll be here to help see you through this!

Just for the record, here's some interesting info:

I've been undergoing a ton of testing over the last 10 weeks or so.  The rheumatologist is vascillating between lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.  Unfortunately, they are not coming up with anything conclusive yet - my ANA (antinuclear antibodies, and an important indicator for lupus) continues to be borderline positive.  My rheumatoid factor is negative.  So we're waiting another 6 weeks, then I go in for more testing.

Bottom line is, I'm the mom of a MM patient (Tara).  It does make one wonder if the two (MM and lupus) could possibly be connected.  Hmmmmmm . . . . .

Please keep us posted with your progress, o.k.?

Jill

Tamara,

I'm definitely keeping you in my prayers.  You just need to have faith and put your life in God's hands.  He'll certainly see you through this.

On some thought to what Jill said.....my mom has also been tested for lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.  She was tested twice......once testing positive for lupus and the second time testing negative.  It makes me wonder since I have MM.  It almost makes me think that my mom should be tested again.  There could be some correlation there.

Hey Guys,
Jill, Michelle, and Nancy thanks for all the support! I have been tested twice for Lupus with the ANA blood test and both have come back positive.I am scheduled for more tests this week and the next so I will keep everyone informed.

What's really funny is I cannot tell which of my syptoms are coming from just the MM or lupus. I would love to hear from any of you that have been tested for Lupus and what kind of problems you were having. I have done so much research on both that me eyes are getting ready to cross!  [smiley=gocrazy.gif]

But thanks to you guys I am keeping the faith!
Love to All,

Tamara:

Now that I think about it, when I was first having problems and in and out of the hospital, I too was tested for lupus and many other rheumatoid diseases.  In fact, I don't think there was a test that I wasn't tested for.  Luckily, it turned out that I didn't have lupus.  Just thought I would add this note.

Hi Tamara!

I'm on the site right now and I saw that you are also.  Want to meet in the chat room?  I was tested for Lupus too, but it came up negative.  I'm very lucky.

Very, very interesting.  I was, tested for Lupus in January of 2004 by my Gynecologist. She really thought that's what was wrong with me.  Of course, it came back negative, and a mere 5 months later I had 'the stroke' that led to the diagnosis of MM.  When, speaking with my neurologist, she mentioned a few illnesses that seem to be linked with MM. Sickle cell anemia, lupus, MS, Down's syndrome...etc. So, I don't know what's true and what's not. But, it definitely seems to be a factor to look at...(IMO)

Just my two cents...

My father was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis six months before I was diagnosed with MM.  To my knowledge, he was never tested for lupus but I'm checking it out.  Interesting!
