Article in the New York Times!
Mar 29th, 2005 at 5:51am

Just noticed the article from Denise Grady from the New York Times just published.  Here's the link: http://www.nytimes.com/2005/03/29/health/29moya.html

You have to register, but it's free.  I haven't even read it myself yet, just wanted to get it up here real quick...  More to come.

If you all haven't picked up the New York Times yet, I suggest you do so.  The article made it on the front page of the health section.  And there are pictures that took up more than half of the front page!  This is absolutely excellent!  Thanks Kathleen!

So good to see the article as I was wondering how Kathleen was doing....last we heard from her was "she was on her way to Stanford".  Jill (gotchlorine) did say she talked with her sister on the phone and that Kathleen was doing well but I was praying that all was okay with her.   It is a great article...no doubt and won't be long before one of the TV shows does its story about it.  Thanks DJ for posting it.

Hey guys,

I feel like I've missed out on an entire day of celebrating with everyone!  Saw the article first thing this morning, but had to attend a funeral today, so have been out for several hours.

All I can say is "wow"!  What an amazing write-up!  As Michelle suggested, get a copy if you don't have one - the pictures are great!  And Denise did a bang-up job of writing the article.  I'm excited at the ripple effect this could have, and the education it will bring to so many people.  If it helps even one person get treatment before a devastating event, it will have been worth it!

Hugs to y'all!

For those of you who didn't have a chance to see the article, we didn't just get an article in the New York Times... we got a 1/2 page, FRONT PAGE article in the Health/Science section!  I was able to round up a few copies for myself today.  Here's what it looked like...

WONDERFUL,
My attorney gave it to me.  He didn't know what he was reading.  We just started talking of my family and the disease and he looked at me in amazement.  Said hold that thought and went to his car to get the article.  He was mesmorized as he read the article.  It just caught his attention.  We said at the same time who would have ever thought that there was something as rare as this and then to meet someone who has encountered it in a very small town.
My first 2 calls went to the doctors that first saw Mark.
I think we should all send 10 or 20 copies to doctors and news stations.  Any thoughts.
DJ this site has brought all of us together in a strange sad way.  But thanks, and thanks to everyone who stays together on this site.  It is great news and hopefully many many people will benefit.  Doctors need to know!

Thanks DJ....for putting it online in photo !!!!...the picture looks GREAT....but the title in my opinion is definitely EYE CATCHING !!!!  Perfect choice of words..wow..wow....almost a perfect T-shirt line, too.  And...of course I didn't get to run out to the local Borders Bookstore to get my copy....I had to squint tightly to read the line under the picture...made me cry...the one of Kathleen going off to surgery and her hubby wiping tears away...I remember my feeling when I went in the operating room with Cara...all the machinery, equipment...and kissing her goodbye after they put her out.    Smiley CarasMOM

Hi Mark!

I've already sent the article and a link to this website to the Washington Post, our local paper here in Fredericksburg, VA, a paper back where I'm from in Harrisonburg, VA and the local ABC affiliate in Washington, DC - WJLA.  Haven't heard back from any of them yet.  I'm also working on some other coverage with some friends I have that work at tv stations or newspapers.

Thanks for posting this article, it is wonderful. Amanda has an appointment with her surgeon next Monday, at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, I am going to bring a copy for him to read. I don't think we can buy the New York Times where I live.

Hi all,
I picked up a bunch of the NY Times and will take them to Stanford at the end of this month.  Mark has his 3 month checkup.  I also took the article to a document center and had it laminated.  It should look pretty good when we walk into Dr. Steinbergs office!

In order to get a reprint of the NY Times Article, you can go to NewYorkTimes.com, register for free and , for a small fee, you can access a reprint.  The Times only leaves the articles on file for 7 days; unfortunately, I was away and did not see the article until late Sunday night (APril 3rd) (my dentist left a message for me on voice mail).  I wanted to reprint the article, but by Monday morning, it was in the archives........Good luck with your visit to the doctor next week.....our prayers are with you........God Bless you and your family, Pat
