Anybody else loosing hair?
Apr 20th, 2005 at 3:23pm

Hi,

This is probably a stupid question and a "long-shot" but I´ll go for it anyway:
My daughter Louise was put on different medication three weeks ago and now she is rapidly loosing large amounts of her long beautiful hair! Since about 2˝ years the doctors have kept her on daily shots of blood-thinner (in Sweden named Fragmin) and for the last three weeks she takes an aspirin (named Trombyl) daily. Is there in your opinion any chance there could be a connection somehow between the change of medicine and her loosing hair? I already asked her doctors and also sent a question to the company distributing the medicine but haven´t yet recieved an answer from any of them.
Any experience or thoughts to share?

Annica

Hi Annica...

....don't know if you ever used "GOOGLE.com"...thought I would put in "side effects of fragmin" and see what I came up with.

It does say hair loss is one of them.

http://www.netdoctor.co.uk/medicines/100001094.html

That is the address I look into.  It also says not to be used in children.

Hope this helps.

Hi CarasMom!

Yes you really helped me a lot but putting me on the right track. Of course there is so much more experience in a country of 200 million peoples population than in one of 8 million (Sweden). Thanks to you I already talked to the company that holds Fragmin in Sweden and they made a search worldwide to find out more about the side-effects. What kills me is that I have all along had "bad vibrations"  about the Fragmin but I was not strong enough to make the doctors listen so here she is my beautiful Louise now also loosing her hair besides having to deal with this frightful disease.
Anyhow, I really got things started thanks to your help CarasMom, so thanks a million for your answer!! Kiss

Take care!!

Hi again!

Still struggling with this hair issue for Louise. I do have another question for all of you? For Louises sake I really need your knowledge and experiences. Does anybody recognize this problem loosing hair due to decrease in bloodflow to the scalp??????? Before Louises surgery, 2˝ years ago, her doctor mentioned that loss of hair and poor hairgrowth could be a side effect of the indirect by-pass since blood-vessels are taken from the scalp and "planted" on the brain-surface and therefore could cause a poor circulation in the scalp.
She is loosing her hair rapidly and of course she is very concerned about it. About six weeks ago she went from daily shots of Fragmin to aspirin and perhaps the Fragmin was a more powerful medication for the bloodcircualtion so now she is loosing her hair!?!? The doctors don´t know so I have to try to come up with a solution to this problem myself.
Can anyone recognize this or relate to this problem please???????
Apart from this hair issue her angio came out pretty good telling us that perhaps she will need another surgery later on but not as long as the symtoms are as vague as today.
Take care everybody and hope to hear from you soon.

Annica,
This probably won't help but Mandy was loosing hair right after she had her strokes and was in the hospital waiting for her surgery, it was litterly coming out in handfulls like she was getting cemo. she had long hair at the time and bushy and pretty thick and she actually had a bald spot in the back, it got very thin all over. We would wash and brush her hair and there was just a ton At that time she was getting shots of Lovenox in her stomach, not sure what else they were giving her it was a hectic time with just being diagnosed and all. I know its not much help but I know how desperate you are, I wonder if those meds. are related at all. It just stopped all of the sudden I believe after surgery her hair wasn't falling out anymore, I can't say that was the exact time as I said so much was happening, we really didn't take notice until after the fact that it stopped falling out. Hope you figure it out soon. Good Luck!
