I was diagnosed with MM in January 2005,
My mother was just diagnosed with MM last week.
The Dr. did tell me that it was genetic. But, I wondered.
I was the first in my family. Wouldn't someone generations ago been diagnosed??? I would ask myself these questions denying the genetic theory.
One day not too long after getting out of the hospital from one of my episodes of Right sided numbness, and weakness, problems with my speech. My mother had explained to me that the symptoms that I had been getting over the years that she also experienced them.
I told her to tell her DR. this and she did. She explained my situation and her symptoms.
They began the testing and sure enough she was diagnosed with MM and had had 2 big strokes and didn't realize it . I am still in shock. That I was 33 yrs old  and my mother 53 yrs old and in 3 months of each other being diagnosed with the same rare brain disease.
The Drs. say that we are very interesting cases!!!!
  Just thought I would let you know it can be genetic. I found out the answer that I had questioned myself so many times about the way I didn't want to.
It just still amazes me.
