Reality has set in ...
May 8th, 2005 at 9:56pm

Hi everyone...

Reality has finally set in.  I've been in the hotel for one day, and my pain shot up to about a 8-9 this morning.  I'm a flat sleeper and apparently that caused my left side (surgery side) to swell up like crazy.  It's down now, but a little activity sets it off (and admittedly I'm not one who rests easily).  I'm trying to rest as much as possible.  Being couped up in a hotel is not my idea of resting.

But I do have a question -- I got the impression prior to surgery that some people are even able to travel around and sight see.  To me, that meant I'd be up and around, especially since they said I was doing so well in the hospital.  However, I've been dragging myself since yesterday.

Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this?  I know some have had complications, but is there anyone who had no 'complications' (i.e. seizures, return to hospital, etc) that has felt like a truck ran over them and they can't move?  Also, with or without complications, does anyone hear a swishing noise in their head after the surgery?  I hear this constant blood flow noise in the left side in my head and I keep joking that if my family doesn't drive me crazy, that noise will!!

Any input to ferment my reality check would be great.  (Just a side note, I was like this after my stroke in January too - left the hospital just fine, thought I was going back to work the next week, no one warned me that I'd feel exhausted, and BAM, it hit like a ton of bricks and didn't go back to work for three weeks).

Thanks to all in advance!!

Trina

Trina: I remember feeling very tired and a little bad( sick to my stomach) a few days after my surgeries, too, but it didn't take long to get back to normal (whatever that is!! Smiley).   I have that swooshing sound, too, though I noticed it more right after my surgeries. I guess it's just added blood flow.  Hang in there!!  Tricia Smiley

Hang in there Trina, I'm sure you will be back up and back at 'em in no time.

Just for your reality check, I also still have the swishing noise on both sides to this day.  I don't notice it all the time, just every once in a while, usually when I'm laying down trying to go to sleep.  Ya kind of get used to it after a while I guess.

Hope this helps a little...

Hi Trina!

I had no complications after my first surgery, but once I got back to the hotel, I did NOT feel like going out and doing anything.  Just layed around and rested.  I just didn't have the energy.

And the swishing sound.....well I didn't have a problem with this (hope it doesn't mean that I don't have good blood flow).  As you've already seen, some people did have that feeling.

Good luck on your second surgery and tell all of your family I said hello and that I'll be thinking about you all and praying for you all as well.

Hi Trina!  I'm still swooshing too!  It does get annoying sometimes!  I also was hoping to get around town a bit after my surgery but no such luck.  Walking up one flight of stairs to my parents' room was enough for me!  I think waiting for my energy level to return was the hardest part of the surgery for me.  Hang in there...it WILL get better!  Don't be too hard on yourself!!

Me Too!  My swishing noise is better than before the surgery, but it's still there.

After my surgeries and was weak and needed to build up my strength again.  My opinion, give your self time to rest!

Trina,
I've always believed listen to your body, if its telling you rest and relax thats what you do. However long it takes your bodies telling you it needs time to recouperate no matter how well you felt. You"ll be up and around before you know it just listen to your body it knows the best. Hope you fell better soon, praying for ya.
