Talk Show Circuit

Hi Everyone!   Smiley

I've been brainstorming again.  Lookout!   Smiley  LOL!

I think it would be a good idea if we all take a moment and send emails to the talk shows in order to help get our story out there to the media and spread the word about MM.  I figure it can't hurt anything.  I've heard several people say they have sent emails to Oprah with no reply.  Maybe we start by doing the talk shows and then from there we can start with television, newspapers, and trade publications.

I've included some links to the talk shows that are worth sending to.  I encourage all of you to take a moment to send your story and give a little background information about MM and the link to this website.

  • The Oprah Winfrey Show

  • Montel Williams Show

  • Good Morning America

  • 60 Minutes

If you have some you want to add to this, please send me a private message and I will add them.

Good Luck!

Absolutely - I have emailed Opray many times - there was even a post to this website back in January 2004.  I periodically keep trying.

I have also emailed my local news station.

Hi Michelle,

What a great idea. It sure would be great to get someone like the Discovery Chanel, The Learning Chanel, etc...to do a special on MM. It seems like they have covered all of the other critical health issues...(even showing parts of some surgeries).

Regards,
Greg

I was misdiagnosed with MM in March of 2005. In January 2006, I was told it is not MM, but rather a massive restriction in the MC1 segment of my left carotid artery.

How about Dr. Phil?  I think he's on at night in a lot of markets, which means people who work or go to school during the day can watch his show, whereas they can't watch many of the daytime shows.

I wrote to him last year sometime, through the website, but I never heard anything.

Hi Michelle

How's Shane?  I loved your story about your airplane fiasco.  You make me laugh. I had an airplane experience wherein the Flight Attendent said "I'm fixin to hit him with the fire extenguisher.  Enough said, I think you get the picture (some looney who had never flown before and thought something was wrong with the plane)  Go Figure!

Thanks to you and Shane for your company, love and support.  You guys are great!  I really appreciate you both very much.

I also contacted the Oprah Winfrey show last year as well as Dr. Phil and local TV stations.  To date, no replies.  I believe in numbers we can make a difference and I believe the talk show circuit is the way to go.  Maybe Montel since he has Multiple Sclerosis he may be more likely to be open to exposing moyamoya. I say we all keep trying and maybe, just maybe they will realize through persistence how important this is to the public.

Take care and let me know how you and Shane are doing.

Hugs,

Lore, Kevin's sister

Hi everyone,

Yes, I was thinking about Maury Povich because his wife
Connie Chung is Asian....and MM hits a lot of Asians, maybe he may be interested.

Also, if a net work will do a story on MM maybe we can get a group together with our diffrenent ethnic backgrounds including children to go on the show since, MM does not choose race, gender, age etc.

Although, they say there's more Asians with MM, I bet
it's not true. SO LITTLE, is known about this, therefore; if we got the SYMPTOMS out there, people will come forth and we may find out MM is not that rare.

Thank you again for letting me put in my 2cents.

itsme

Hi all,

I just emailed all of the addresses on Michelle's post except for Oprah who I think my aunt did email when we first found out Trey had MM and she didn't reply.  Anyway, I did email and if anyone happens to hear anything back we would be willing to tell Trey's story if needed.
