well its been 1-week after surgery, and i do feel good considering i had brain surgery. as long as i keep current on pain meds and take it easy....

one funny thing, my scalp hurts a lot! it just feels funny, numb in some places- and really sore in others....is that normal for others too???

Tyler still says his head feels Weird on his scar, and it's been almost 2 years since his surgeries. We had a lot going on right after his surgeries so I can't remember how long he had pain, so I can't help you there. Hope it gets better.

Mandy is a little over 2 yrs since surgery and it still hurts when I brush her hair and put in barrets, her scares are very sensitive also.

Shanna,

I had my first surgery over two years ago and had NO pain and NO numbness.  Had my second surgery over a month ago and I still feel exactly as you do now.  First surgery I had direct bypass, second time I had both indirect and direct.  I was told that it's usually the indirect (because they are playing around with muscle) that tends to hurt more.

Odd feeling as it's numb on the outside (I can literally bang my head against something and not know it!) yet little tiny spots hurt and it hurts inside.  Difficult to explain.  What a pain combing my hair as I can't feel if I'm ripping my scalp off or not!

I talked to my surgeon about this and he said that the feeling should come back eventually and I might be wishing for the numbness when it does as I am to expect shooting pains as the nerves start growing back.  Yipee  lol

Just wanted you to know that you're not alone.  Keep me updated on your progress!

Lisa

Hmmm... maybe this is why Daphne really hates it when I wash her hair now.  She used to loove bathtime, now she likes it up until the hair-wash. Sad

She had two indirect surgeries in March.

Cara's surgeries were July 2004 and August 2004...only pain is when I brush her hair but her friend who never had surgery has same pain when I brushed her hair...but Cara doesn't like her spots be touched where the muscle grafts go in.  I on the other hand had cochlear implant and found numbness lasted 6 months...now is fine....I rubbed Cara's incision on each side she says doesn't hurt but can feel my touch (meaning isn't numb).   The time frame will vary from one person to another...but it'll be back to normal eventually.    Wink, CarasMOM

Hello Shanna
I had surgery April 7th, my incision still numb in places, often I feel sharp pains in areas, hoping that is a good sign that the vessel is growing...  I do not like to comb my hair very hard within the incision area.  Take care & welcome to the site...
Get plenty of rest & drink water all the time..

My scalp twitches around my incision site on the left side. I'm not sure if anyone else gets this but my surgeries were in 1996. It doesn't hurt when it happens but can be a bit distracting.

Best wishes to all,

Roz
