Hello,
  My name is Chris. I under went bypass on the left side on June 6th. The day after my surgery,  the physical therapist walked me around to make sure I did not need physical therapy. When I returned to my room after about twenty minutes I lost my speech and the use of both of my arms. The doctor ordered that I have an emergency CT and EKG. The results of the tests did not show any signs of stroke or TIA. My doctor said that I had a Vascular Vagal. Has anyone else ever had this experience? Other than that I was released on June 9th and now I feel great other than a few small headaches.
I would greatly appreciate any input that anyone may have.

I too have never heard of the term vascular vagal, but I have heard many people say that after their surgery they could not speak, write or even form words they wanted to say, etc., for a brief time after their surgeries. So perhaps others experienced the same or similar thing you have, but never heard it put in those technical terms before. (??)

When I looked it up, I read a lot of medical jargon I didn’t understand. It said, vagal is pertaining to the vagus nerve, meaning wandering, blah, blah, blah, and the more I read, the more foreign it was to me, and way out of my league of understanding. So, if I were you, I’d ask my doctor to explain Vascular vagal in simpler terms, (if he can) to see if anyone here would better relate to that experience under those terms. I also saw the definition Stephanie explained, (good job Steph!)and wondered if your doctor means it was an anxiety type of episode. (??)
