Juvenile Dibetes - 2005 Walk To Cure
Aug 2nd, 2005 at 11:19am

Hi All!

Besides being passionate about MM - supporting people and raising awareness, there is something else I'm very passionate about - Juvenile Diabetes.

My brother was diagosed with Diabetes when he was 20.  He's now 33 and recently married!  I'm teaming up my with my new Sister-in-Law, Carrie, to participate in this years Walk to Cure Diabetes.  If you would, please visit my walk website at:

Thanks everyone!

Aloha Shari,

I noticed your posting regarding your support for the JDF.  I'm not sure if you already knew, but I was recently diagnosed with type-II diabetes this January, a few months before being diagnosed with moyamoya.  As with you know, it just adds to our many challenges we are faced with.  I hope some day, there will be a nationwide event such as this supporting the research and treatment of moyamoya!  Smiley

Anyway, I'm glad that you have teamed up with your sister-in-law in the fight against juvenile diabetes, and therefore, made a small donation on-line in your name....I know it's not much, but I'm still trying to juggle my hospital and various medical bills from my recent surgery.  I wish you and Carrie the best of luck in your efforts!   Smiley

Take care,
Shan

Thanks, Shan!  Every dollar helps!

I did not know about your diagnosis with type-II diabetes...sorry to hear about that.  Are you treating it with diet?  Insulin?  Did you know that increasing daily exercise, even just a little bit, really helps with prevention and further complications for type-II diabetes.  Good luck with it!

You're welcome Shari....

I, thank God, am not on insulin, just oral medication (Avandamet=Avandia and Metformin).  So far, it's being controlled with just oral medication.  Yes, I agree...exercise is great!... My neuro gave me the okay to start walking.  He suggested walking around the mall because it's air conditioned and lots of places to rest..not to mention other people around in case of anything.

Good luck with you and Carrie on your walk!  Smiley  I'm glad I could be of help.   Smiley

Aloha,
Shan   Smiley

Shari...gonna visit the site too...Im a type-1 diabetic...have about five to six insulin shots a day...no medication (which helps your body use its own insulin) as I do not have any insulin.  Found out November of 2003.    Smiley See you in Vegas,  CarasMOM
