Hello all thought I would take some time and give an update on my almost week now here in Stanford.  I also havent wanted to flood the website with lots of post but thought updating everyone on myself would be a good idea.  Also I have so appreciated all the well wishes and prayers since my diagnoses.  I got here of course on Tuesday of last week, and ofcourse I had to get some Stonecold Creamery.  I took all the fat out and ate the rest to make it more healthyer(hope that is a word, lol).   Thursday and Friday I had my brain spec scan.  And I am sorry to say they did not find a brain.  Just kidding there is a brain up there.  Thursday went pretty well or I guess it did havent found out those results so far.  Friday was a very long day.  They were backed up in the picture department and after putting the iv in me I sat in a dark room for an hour and a half, then finally got my injection and then another hour later they came to get me to get my brains picture taken.  Almost sounds like a school yearbook, lol.  Saturday Campbell, Jill, Tara, and I spent the day in my favorite place Santa Cruz(did I mention I love that place, lol.  Sunday I was able to attend church with Campbell, Jill, and Tara.  I trully enjoyed their service, and their pasture is so awesome.  Today I have a Transcranial Dopler with Joann cant wait to see her.  Afterwards i meat with Dr. Steinberg(or other wise known as Superman).  Then tommorow everyones favorite the angiogram and Zenon Test.  Then Wednesday rounding everything off with my surgery.  Ok I know this was a long post, and before going I will say to Jill, Campbell, and Tara I love these guys so much, they are true saints in my book.  And if I could do anything in the world for them I would do it in a heartbeat.  Ok off to get my brain stuff done

Just an update on Shane.  He had his Xenon CT scan and angiogram today.  He had a tough time with the Xenon scan at first.  He doesn't like the fact that he has to wear that mask.  Thank goodness for Dr. Dodd....he came to the rescue for Shane.  They had to stop the first test and start over again.  Shane wanted OUT!!!!  LOL!  So Dr. Dodd came in and calmed him down and he was able to make it through the rest of it.  He was ready to go for another round when it was all said and done!  Must be the fact that men LOVE this test!!! 

Anyway...on to the angiogram at 11:15 a.m.  He asked for the angio seal and the doctor said that yes he could use it unless something came up where he couldn't.  Well.....that something came up.  It turns out that his artery they had to use divides at one point and is so far up.  So they had to use a smaller artery and couldn't use the angio seal on such a small artery.  So....he is having to lay flat for 6 hours.  He's not a happy camper and a little bit irritated.  Such is life!  He's taking it like a trooper though and still giving the nurses a hard time.    LOL!  We should be getting out of here by 8:30 p.m.  He is able to get up and walk probably while I'm typing this.  Guess I better wrap this up!!!

It looks like Shane won't have to have the second surgery (for now anyway).  He has a great donor artery and the side he is having trouble with....the carotid artery is not occluded....only narrowing. 

Well....tomorrow he must be in the hospital at 5:30 a.m.  Yawn!!!!

Hi Michelle,

It was great to hear from you as well as to hear Shane is being initiated into the moyamoya family. lol

I spoke to Shane on the phone Sunday evening and he made me laugh. He was helping Jill by cleaning the shower. I thought that was so sweet of him.

Dr. Dodd is great. He is one of my favorites at Stanford. Kevin really liked Dr. Dodd. He has a way about him that is soft and calming while all the while he is taking care of business.  He is extremely intelligent and knows his medicine. 

Good news about Shane not requiring the second surgery at this time. I will be thinking about you guys all day today as I know Shane goes to surgery. I know he is in good hands and all will be well. I will wait to hear your update.

Give Shane a great big hug from me.

Hmmmmmmmmmm..........thinking of ways that I can get Dr. Dodd to come in and check on Shane now.       

Shane went in at 7:10 a.m. this morning and was in great spirits considering.  He was making us laugh up until he was carted off.  He was able to take his beanie baby in with him that mom gave him to keep with him during surgery.  If you didn't know, I was given a beanie baby to take in with me and we were surprised that they even let him go into surgery with me.  My dog was called Kirby and his is Kirby, Jr....even though it looks like a Kirby Sr.  LOL!!  The anethesiologists asked him if the dog was going in with him and he said yes, since his mom could not be with him that he had to take it in with him.  He then told everyone that the dog was his mom.  What a character!!!!! 

Anyway....now the waiting begins and Jill and I are just passing time.  We will keep you posted as best we can.

Hope the waiting isn't too stressful.  I just got in last night from Salt Lake City (Jon finally got here, Jill, about an hour after I talked to you) and am thinking positive thoughts until I hear from you. (OH, and after I hear from you, too!)

I'm glad Shane and Kirby, Sr. made it through okay. I'm sure Michelle is relieved now that Shane is out of surgery and told her he is okay.

I know how it has been a long day for all. Hope you all get some rest and relaxation. You can always go to Coldwater Creek and sit and listen to the calming waterfalls. They got to know me quite well at Coldwater Creek when I was at Stanford with Kevin.  I felt obligated to buy something from them. Sounds like a good excuse to me.

Dr. Steinberg's signature line "He/She behaved themself" just makes me laugh. I wonder if he has ever had anyone who didn't behave themself?!

I'll keep watching the board for an update from either you or Michelle.

Poor Shane!!!      He thought he was getting out of the hospital today, but it turns out they aren't letting him out until tomorrow.  He is doing super thought!!!  He's giving all the nurses a hard time and flirting with them as much as possible.  I think he's determined to leave with a girlfriend so he can get some personal attention while he's on the mend at home.    

His swelling seems to be going down today so it looks like everything is going to go ok.  He looks like a million bucks, but really needs a shower!!!     I think he's going to get one today, but no sponge baths for him.     He was sure hoping though! 

He will be going home tomorrow and he's looking forward to it.  Unfortanately, I will be on my way home.  But I will look forward to him coming home next Saturday.

Funny you mentioned picture - I didn't get one of any of the residents, now that I think of it.  I didn't manage to even get one with Dr. Steinberg, so I'll have to aim for that at my appt.  But Dr. Dodd, I'll have to be on the hunt for him in the hallways with my camera...Stanford Medical Center, look out.  Trina's Candid Camera is on its way!

I was out of town for 4 days but returned to see your positive post about Shane's progress.

I'm glad Shane is getting to come home as I'm sure he is as well.

Ummmm? Let me see, sponge bath and girlfirend.  Well Shane sounds alot like Trina. Trina has a crush on Dr. Dodd and is shopping for a man and Shane is shopping for a girlfriend.  Maybe the two could get together and start a dating service?

I talked to Jill yesterday and could hear Shane in the background.  He was asking about Dallas and where we live.  He knew just where it was!!  Guess he was pretty happy about those Cowboys last night!!

I'm so glad Shane is doing so well and I know you are anxious to have him home.  God speed.  Hope to meet you both in the future.
