Any MM sufferers who have had a stroke

Just to let you know that there is a support charity for younger stroke sufferers at Multimedia File Viewing and Clickable Links are available for Registered Members only!!  You need to Login or Register

This is a resource for UK stroke survivors, but we are happy to have visitors from anywhere in the world!

We are developing plans for a children's stroke workshop at the moment, and would be delighted to send details of this to any families who have been affected by stroke as a result of MM.  If you have had a stroke (at any age) do visit our messageboard and share your experiences with other stroke survivors - you will be helping to raise the profile of MM!

With very best wishes to you all - Christina

;Grin ;GrinHi Christina,

I suffered a mild stroke before being diagnosed with MM.  It all started with a very bad headache.  I had some numbness on my left side.  Didn't think anything of it but a bad migraine, until my boyfriend told me that my mouth was drooping.  I then told him to bring me to the hospital (this was 2 days later) where they took a CT scan (it showed a bleed).  I was then sent via air ambulance to Oahu where I was diagnosed with MM after doing a cerebral angiogram.  I had some paralysis on my left-side of my body.  The most paralysis is gone, but I still have some slurring when I speak.  I have not suffered any strokes since being released from the hospital at the end of June.  I still have some trouble writing (my hand gets tired) my handwriting is never going to be the same (I'm left-handed) Smiley ;Grin.  Sorry being ambidextrous is not going to happen....my right hand does like being told what to do. Smiley

Hi Jan - sorry to hear about your stroke.

The main thing I can tell you is that you will keep on getting better and better - keep on working on your LH!

I know there are lots of physicians who say that you won't make any progress after the first 6 months after a stroke - at least, that's what stroke survivors in the UK tell us.  THIS IS RUBBISH!!!  ;Grin  Just look at the Different Strokes message board - the stroke survivors there are saying with one voice that (although progress may slow down) they are improving all the time - even many years after stroke.

Very best wishes with your continued recovery!
