Skull Collapsing
Dec 1st, 2005 at 4:56am

Hi,
I would like to know if anyone has problems with skull after surgery.  On my left side they could not put my skull back on where they took it off.  Now on the right side my skull is colapsing.  My head hurts on both sides most of the time.

Thanks in advance
Bonnie

woah.. dear that's a problem!!!
did they actually put it back in at all or couldnt fit it no left it?

with my surgery there was talk of leaving the bit out and having to wear a helmet for a month or so. if you didn't have the piece of skull surely you should have been wearing a helmet?! or if it was there and didn't heal right.... geez!!!

on that not (small in comparison though!) i bumped my head (right in the middle of my scar) on the car door today, OUCH!)

sorry to hear about those troubles bonnie, what next?

Hi Bonnie I can't imagine that they couldn't replace the large piece of bone that they removed.
Is that what your surgeon said?  My thought is that you're feeling the dents caused by the burr holes.  We should all have 2 of these on each side to the allow the Temporal artery to enter and exit under your skull.  They are about the size of a quarter and must remain open.  When I asked Dr. Connolly about these strange dents he said that it goes with the territory and that over time they could get a little deeper but they're nothing to be concerned about.
I really can't imagine that your head is collapsing yet you were able to type a lucid intelligent posting.
To ease your mind, I would call your neurosurgeon to verify this.

Yake care  Happy holidays,     Tom G.
