Michell,
If it makes you feel any better, I have had two CT-Angio's. Both of mine lasted about 6 minutes. It actually took them longer to put in/take out the IV then it did to run the test. The test is basically a CT scan. About 2/3 of the way through they put an injecting into the IV that shows the arteries better than a conventional CT. Other than a bit of flushing (skin warming) and a bad taste in your mouth, the inject is not that bad. The good news is that these side effects last for under a minute.
I'm not sure if your son had MM surgery yet. From a few "conversations" on the site, a few people have had the CT-A for follow ups and not angio's.
In my case, my doctors only used the CT-A as an additional diagnositc study to determine MM, and not for the final diagnosis. Unfortunately, in my case, the CT-A restults were translated such that they thought I had unilateral MM. When I had the actual anigo, the doctors determined that I did not have MM, rather I have a severe blockage in the Left MC with two collateral vessels by-passing the blockage. From what my doctors told me, it sounds like the CT-A is more helpful when they are able to view the results on the computer where they can rotate and explore various areas. Once they make x-rays of the results, they can only use it for guidance purposes only.....in my case, both doctors were only able to see the x-rays.
Seeing that I am not a doctor, the above is just my two cents.
