lsuvia Junior Poster Offline Diagnosed w/MM on 8/2005 Posts: 52 Oceanside, USA, usa, 62, 227, CA, California Gender:	A set back Mar 18^th, 2006 at 8:26pm hi gang, i had a set back. i had my surgery on 3/8. i was doing well. i had a stroke on thurday. i was discharged today. my left side was effected, i have trouble commucating. does anyone else have the problem? i get tired. lee

I'm so sorry, Lee. Is your surgeon aware of the stroke? Are there any plans for testing, or any explanations as to why this happened after you seemed to be recovering well? Are you doing OK?

If this helps, just the fact that you are aware and able to type an email so soon after the stroke sounds to me like a very good sign that you can make a full recovery. Right now, you probably have still have some brain swelling, so you are experiencing the worst of the symptoms. It will get better.

Sorry ot hear about your setback.My daughter Kathleen had a setback after her first surgery.Four daus after ehr surgery she suffered a very large stroke on the right side of her brain and small ones on the left.BUT from that moment on she continued to get better and had no further setbacks.The major stroke is still a daily struggle for her but she's still amking progress.she was essentially reduced to an infant again but now 4 yrs later she's reading writting talking and walking(with the help of an AFO and SMO and just a small limp).Many prayer that you will continue on your path to a full recovery.What have your Dr.'s told you about this setback? Did you have any tests done?

Hi Lee,
I was so sorry to hear of your set back - I thought everything was going to be fine after your bypass. Are you still going to get the bypass on the other side done in April?
I am praying that your setback is just a minor and temporary one that will resolve itself fully over time.

Hey Lee:

I'm so sorry to hear of your stroke. But as Jenny said, the fact that you are up and emailing is a great sign!!

Did you have a hemorragic or ischemic stroke? Depending on which, might explain what happened. Do speak to your neurosurgeon about this. If you are able and willing to, let us know what they say because I would be curious to know why either one would happen.

You are in my thoughts - get well soon.

Hello everyone!
I have gotten stronger and my speech has improved just in the past couple of days. I've notice that I need a couple of naps. My speech isn't as slurry. I'm sked for April 3rd for the right side. I'm going to hang around Stanford for about 7-10 days just in case. I think I had trouble with the left side which is why I had a stroke. The doctors had run MRI, MRA, and CT scan cerebrial. They are mailing the reports/films to Dr. Steinberg's office. I find out more once they receive the reports.
I've been taking it easy, not pushing myself. I've notice resting helps. I've gotta run.

Unfortunately, Stroke is a definite risk for brain surgery. I had a stroke immediately after my second one....but by the time I left the hospital (about a week later) I was starting to regain my speech again. Hang in there! -Shari

Hi Everyone!
I have been improving everyday. 8)!! My speech gets better everyday. I had a slight stroke on my right side as well. It is probably the reason why I was so emotional. Smiley

I didn't have any strokes other than the initial TIA in May. The strokes were post-ops. I think they happened because my brain isn't used to having arteries working with full-flow. I have my 2nd surgery on 4/3/06. We are going to stay around Standford just incase. I'll talk to you all soon!
