2nd Surgery Date, yay!!
Mar 22nd, 2006 at 7:13pm

alrighty, i finally have the date for my second surgery...

April 20!

which is still a few weeks away but gives me a bit of time to play before going under the knife again.... apparently i take 3 weeks to prepare for or something (i think they're referring to preparing themselves for 7-8 in my company, geez and here i was thinking i was a model patient!) but at least i get to give myself the clexane injections this time, which is waaay better than sitting around at home all day waiting for someone to come over... and waaay waaay better than sitting in hospital for a few weeks also!

Anyway so woo.. bring it on..

Emily,

I'm glad you've got your second surgery date scheduled.   I know you must be so ready to get this all over with!  You've got such a great sense of humor/attitude.... I just know you'll do well.   Of course you're a model patient  Wink

Why we all so happy when we have a surgery dated?  With my experience the waiting game is so terrify, I can't go to work when I find out I have MM on Jan(doctors house arrest me Sad), and always live in worry with so many "WHAT IF .....?" question, I too so happy when I got my dated Apr 7, good luck with your surgery and you are in my thought and prayer. Well I personally am happy because

a) i feel so amazingly fantastic having just one artery working properly... imagine how it's going to be when i have TWO arteries supplying my brain!! woo!!! (and then later on maybe 3, or even.... one day....... 4!!!!)

b) i've been damn near waiting forever (yes is exaggerate) and i really want to get on with stuff.. like ah..... LIFE! maybe get a job, re-instate my travel plans etc...

c) my scar from my last surgery has COMPLETELY dissapeared... and I've met quite a few new people since then and they don't really beleive that i've had hard-core brain surgery - so i need a new scar to prove it to them   Wink  ;Grin  Smiley  Cheesy  Smiley hehe

Emily

Glad your date is now confirmed.
How long to they have to put up with you in that Melbourne hospital (Ha Ha) ?

How long does your surgeon wait until removing the stitches ?
(Mine was two weeks, and then another two weeks until I could wet my hair - as my three surgeries were back to back in one hospital stay, I was in prison for 34  days and went 48 days without getting my head wet. I say head, because I had my hair shaved off !)

Will you have access to the net while in hospital?

Are you back in Melbourne? Did you catch any of the Games action ?

A lot of questions !

xx

Hey Helene, no worries about the questions hehe.

Well I go into hospital on the 18th, to go on a heparin drip for 2 days before the op... no idea why as i didn't do this last time, guess my doc just wants to keep a close eye on me beforehand....  Roll Eyes

last time i was operated on the thursday and discharged on the monday, so hopefully it will be the same this time! and i had disolving stitches (no scar at all) so i don't need to wait around for that... and went home with a wicked "NO PRESSURE" patch on my head which got checked weekly (and i think removed after 1 week anyway). and then i washed my hair pretty soon after that - gently... which was exciting after having dreadlocks for so long  Wink hehehe....
i'll be far less excited this time though, the novelty has worn off! haha....
and as for haircuts, last time they only shaved a section 15cm by 2cm long... so hopefully this will be the same, just not sure which direction..
man i dunno how you survived 34 days in hospital.... my longest stay was only 12 days.... then 5, then 5... on the last stay i damn-near discharged myself, i was going nuts! or well past going nuts and busting out seemed the only option! hehe

no i won't have net access in hosp, but i'll get my mum or mate to post how i'm doing.

comm games: yeah my little weightlifting mate won the bronze on the first day of the competition and i went and watched her, so happy!  ;Grin that was heaps fun..
i didn't see any more sports but melbourne ran a cultural festival during the games with FREE live music, dance, arts, circus, etc... performances everyday, all over town... was awesome! acts from all over the world so i had a blast running around town everyday for 2 weeks going nuts... now is the stay-at-home-at-the-beach wind-down... which i'm quite enjoying! hehe... bah for city air! (or lack of)

anyway, hope all's well in your hood Smiley
xoxo

Emily,

Great news on getting your second surgery date scheduled. I know you will do well. You have a great attitude and hey, you've "been there done that". It's amazing what blood flow will do for the brain.

I'll be anxious to hear how well you do and what type of hairstyle you end up with this time. Smiley

Best wishes to you.

Hugs, Smiley

Lore

Thanks Lore,

Yeah I'm not worried at all... just looking fwd to how awesome it's going to feel to have even MORE bloodflow!

And yeah, I got a bit carried away with making little dreadies (you can kinda see them in the pic).. but hopefully i've left enough 'room' for surgery, hehe.. Otherwise I guess I'll deal with it... not making dreads over the scar areas anyway.. the whole thought of possible scar shrinkages/stretches with climate changes etc... urhhh sends a bit of a shiver down me!

edit:: typos....... pffft!!

Emily,

I like your present hairstyle. Looks like your hair has grown substantially since your last surgery and especially with being able to have dreads. That's the nice thing about hair, it grows back.

Hugs,

Lore

yeah lore i'm so stoked out how long my hair is! has gone from like 1 inch to 4-5 inches in only 5 months.. and my longest dread is actually 6 inches!! hehe.... i ended up getting carried away and just dreading almost all of it except the 'right' side..... meh... if i have more surgery, it won't be til at least 5-6 months away... if they have to be cut off i'll jsut grow it and dread it again! ----> my attititude there has certainly picked up hasn't it!

cheers for the well wishes everyone, it means a lot  Smiley  Wink  Cheesy  ;Grin Smiley
