Ems surgery
Apr 22nd, 2006 at 12:12am

Hey MM crew,
Surgery went pretty smoothly, unfortunately didnt wake up as 'high' this time..... Instead i immediately asked for my stats! hehe
First night was very very long... I was dying to get the heart line out of my arm and couldnt sleep.
Then had a few scares with sensation loss on keft side and tingling.
Followed by a cat scan at 5am and a phone call to Laidlaw, poor dude. But it didnt show anything and a further mri/mra also confirmed no strokes and good blood flow.
So the doc could only put the symptons down to unknown moya mya stuff.
In general feel alright but head is shaped like a swollen football and right eye is totaly swollen shut.
Wound area is only 1cm by 12cm again which is good, will be out in a few days
Cheers xox Emily

Emily,

Good news! Smiley

Glad to hear all went well and the tingling was nothing major. That darn swelling! Smiley It will subside soon.

What did they do to your hair this time? Smiley

You'll be up and about soon.

Keep us posted on your progress.

Hugs,

Lore

Emily,

Congratulation....I'm glad to hear that everything went well. I'm sure you will be home resting in your own bed in the very near future. So, how bad did they cut the dreds?

Wishing you a speedy recovery,
Greg

I was misdiagnosed with MM in March of 2005. In January 2006, I was told it is not MM, but rather a massive restriction in the MC1 segment of my left carotid artery.

Hey Emily,

Way to go, champ!  You're all done with surgery and, with that worry behind you, can hopefully fully concentrate on recovery.  Hope your hairdo isn't too bad, but I suspect you'll make it work!

Please keep us posted and definitely let us know when you head home!

Big hugs,
Jill

Emily,

Great news on making it through your second surgery, but there was no doubt in my mind that things would be fine.  Keep your chin up and get some rest.

How is that hair of yours?  I hope they didn't take too much of it.

Hi Emily,

I thought of you last Tuesday and Thursday. Really good to see your post though I'm sorry to hear about your long first night.

I was chatting to someone about you yesterday. I was saying about how uplifting your posts always are. You have a great attitude and you're a real inspiration.

Have noticed a common theme running through your replies - your hair Smiley I have a question too. Have you noticed whether your new hair from your first surgery is growing back really curly? My hair is ultra straight yet the hair that has grown back since surgery still looks as if it has been crimped and my surgeries were ten years ago!

Wishing you a speedy recovery.

Take it easy,

Roz

yo all....
my sister posted that for me last week. i only just got out of hospital today!!!!!!! rahhhhh

things were going alright after that last update, with the exception of usual post-surgical pain, until sunday night/monday morning when i got the mother of all heachaches... like 20billion/10 pain lasting for hours in head and neck and all that yuckiness.... ended up having another CT scan which unfortunately showed a bleed under the operation site..

so they kept me in until today, observing for chancges likes headaches, extreme drousiness etc...
i was pretty damn tired at first (then again byt that time i'd had about 10 hrs [non-induced] sleep since getting to hosp.... and nauseous, but the pain hasn't returned so they decided it's safe for me to be home now, have to return 4/5 times over the next week for various checks/scans etc... and then it will be decided if/when i can go back on plavix/clexane..... currentnly i'm just back on the aspirin....

but anyway... as for the big question....... MY HAIR...

well it's kinda funny actually, my dressing was 1cm wide by 12cm long... hehe..... smaller than last time! so didn't lose any dreads at all, just a few strands of hair pretty much! (oh yeah and i have fairly wavy/curly hair anyway, but the "regrowth" has been a fair bit curlier... i think just cause it's short though and hasn't much weight).
i'll get my act together soon and post some pics.... man did i have a wicked black/swollen eye after the first day or so (apparantly my punishment for not "shutting up and lying still during surgery" hehe).

feeling pretty damn good now, much steadier and more clear headed than last time. had been going fairly insanse the last 3 days in hosp (don't worry helene i gave the staff plenty of grief, mostly though because they couldn't keep up with me, i now have a reputation of doing everything for myself, which isn't always a good thing!) , but had my usual rainbow set-up which kept me [and most around] farily cheerful..

thanks for all the well wishes, will be back again soon (no longer in possession of a computer so visits will be less frequent).

xoxoxo

hey all...
just reporting in once again..
been outta hospital almost a week now, and feeling AWESOME!!
minor headaches most days but very very minor.... occasional slip of nausea aruond my neck but also minor.... none of the balance/memory/fatigue/general-uselessness issues i had after the last op...
can definitely feel the difference with the extra bloodflow, especially as i'm no longer on plavix/clexane/heparin..... just aspirin... the "thicker" blood would usually knock me out but i can't tell the difference at all.

I'm even looking into my options (if there are any) to move onto some postgraduate studies in the neurology/neurosciences fields....
My mechanical engineering background isn't entirely appropriate but i reckon with a bit of preliminary studies I could work my way there.... I sure have the interest and motive/incentive factors on my side!!
