Have people gone on Disability for MM related operations? If so, for how long?

I went on short-term disability after my surgeries, but then I had a lot of problems after my surgeries.  I had a small stroke after my second surgery which caused me to have a dropped foot.  I basically had to learn to walk all over again.  Then after that I found out I had a blood clot in my right leg.  I was out on short-term disability for 5 months.

Ladybugz,

I went on disability when I had a major stroke in 1997 & have remained on it since then.  I really wanted to go back to work after my sta/mca operations the next year so I went through almost a year of speech, physical & occupational therapies, but realized that I wouldn't make a very good counselor anymore if I was still worried about myself &  had aphasia!  I was lucky that I had disability insurance that got me through (paid for a lawyer) the almost 3 years of "fighting" with social security.  I am now 54 y.o. & they've  stopped having me get yearly physicals to stay on it until I turn 65.

The things that helped me retain permanent disability were my age (46 at the time of diagnosis) & that I still needed to take a nap in the afternoon.  There are no jobs that would let me nap!  I went from a professional job & to where they told me I could work for Walmart, looking at screens to find people shoplifting.  It was VERY demeaning, after having your job that you worked your whole life to attain and being told that you have to take whatever job you would qualify for.

I'm sorry, I haven't  read your previous posts to know if this will help....  but good luck in your search!   deb

Ladybugs,
My daughter was on short term disability from her job that turned into long term then they made her apply for SSD and she was approved right away and has been on it for a few years. She is 23 years old now, she was in very very bad shape though having had 4 strokes and will not be able to work for the rest of her life even though she has done a tremendous job of rehabing back...its just not enough mentally and physically. Hope this helps.

Thanks. I'm a college student and I really want to keep up with school after my upcoming operation.  I know my health is more important, but there are only so many loans I can take out and qualify for and then I have to work to pay for the rest. I'm just not sure how things will keep up.

Thank you.

I went on short term medical leave of absence for 5 weeks for my surgeries and recovery.  No disability for me although I only started back to work half days after the 5 weeks (went to therapy the other half day).

Ladybugz,

I'm on my disability throught my work since I got dianosig on Jan, and still don't know when I will be able to go back to work because my job is very demanding on physical and mental and I'm no where near that, I don't know what next in future but just take 1 day at the time, it not help much for you but let you know that you not alone.
