Seizures and Pregnancy

I was wondering if any of you ladies who have given birth post-op also have had seizures/epilepsy?  If so, how was your pregnancy managed, what meds did you take?
Thanks for any advice or info,
Steph

Hi Steph,

Long time since we last talked. I can't really help you with your question, but I know that when I was pregnant with Chad post op the pregnancy increased my blood flow so for the first time in a long time I experienced no headaches or anything. As long as you are being closely monitored you should be ok.

Hey Steph:

I had my baby post-op and I have to say I felt the best I had in a long time while I was pregnant... Weird!

Anyway, I was on Keppra and was weining off when I got pregnant. So, by the time I was about 8 weeks pregnant, they took me off totally and I did fine... Of course, now I am on Neurontin. Anyway, since I took it while I was pregnant for a brief time, they had me take Folic Acid (helps prevent spina bifida). They also did a different kind of ultra sound when I was about 14 weeks pregnant to look for spina bifida.

So, their major concern was the baby having spina bifida from me taking the meds. It was a class C med so they didn't really have many studies on it.

Everything was fine. Abigail is happy and healthy and I had to go back on after she was born.  Sad

But, at least I got through it without giving her too many meds.

Also, on a separate note, I have never taken Aspirin a day so that was of no concern.

Thanks!

Thank you so much for your responses!  I am really trying to decide whether or not to adopt.

Sara, what kind of seizures have you had?  Did you have seizures pre-op, post-op, or both?  Did you have any seizures during your pregnancy?
Thanks for any responses,
smiles and hugs,
Stephanie

Steph:

I resonded to you a couple days ago, I guess it didn't show up??

Anyway, I was post-op when I started having "seizures". I was about 13 or 14 years post op. when I started getting a lot more headaches and had a twich in my left hand/fingers. I went in to see my neurolist and he had an EEG done. Well, no seizures showed but he diagnosed what he called conscience, partial continuous seizure. I thought it seemed weird, but the Keppra he put me on helped with both issues, so I didn't worry to much about the diagnoses.

Like I said before, I was off my medicine throughout MOST of the pregnancy. I had no problems at all. It was great. Of course, a couple months after Abigail was born, I was put on another anti convulsant for the same symptoms. And, again, I feel fine.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Smiley
