Michell, I'm sorry but I don't have any owrds of wisdom about the allergies except that maybe you could e-mail Dr.Scott about it asking if there were any precautions he thinks you should take as far as allergy meds.That's probably the route I'de take.he's really great about answering e-mails,and it's easier than a phone call.
   Wow it sounds like Trey is doing great.I can't believe he's 3 yrs old!!! I'm glad he likes preschool.that's great that the constraint therapy went well for him.I'm considering talking with the rehab hospital that Kathleen was in after her strokes about doing this next summer(there's really no time when schools n session).This summer we did a lot of work on bilateral tasks and one big accomplishment was, that now Kathleen can put her own shirt on!! We tried it last year and she just wasn't ready for this task.It's not that easy with just one arm.She's using it a bit more spontaniously(as a helper).Sounds like Trey is keeping you guys busy,but I'm sure like us, you wouldn't ahve it any other way.good luck with those "thrilling threes" !Thanks for the update,keep in touch!

as far as i have been taught, and been told recently, cold and cough meds are no good but benadrly is not a vasoconstrictor its a antihistamine whgich is fine for most MM patients, robert had a cold last week and dr. said bendraly to help post nasal drip but not cough med.

just my input

I'm not sure if the benadryl theory is true.  When I went for my one year angio, I spiked a fever and they dind't know what caused it - as a precaution, they (per Dr. Scott) gave me benadryl thinking I may have had an allergic reaction to the dye they use in the angio.  I would double check with a pharmacist or a doctor about Benadryl.

Shari,I'm  with you I'm not so sure about the Benadryl either.The reason being that under the care of Dr. SCott Kathleen was given benadryl aslo.It was after her first surgery she was having what looked like seizures (later we ralised she was having a seriouse stroke), but they gave her Phenabarb for the seizures and she ahd an alergic, reaction so they then gave her Benadryl to stop it.I can't imagine that they would have given it to her if it was dangerous for her.

Hi, there! Smiley

Just wanted to put in my  Smiley on the benadryl thing.

My daughter was also given benadryl at the hospital (while under the care of Dr. Scott) - because believe it or not, she was allergic to the bed sheets!! Smiley  Apparently the detergent the hospital used on their laundry didn't agree with Kate, and minutes after getting on the bed she developed a full body rash!!  As if there wasn't already enough to worry about!!  Anyway, the hospital gave her benadryl for the rash, and we brought in our own linens - and all was well.

I had heard the same about cold meds - no pseudoephedrine, no ibuprofen, but benadryl and antihistamines are ok.  Unfortunately, for both of my girls, antihistamines tend to make their BP's go too high, so for us, those are out too.  My girls have that post nasal drip cough all year long - so if anyone has any good tips about something else that works for that -
please!!!
let me know!!

Anyway, good luck Michell.  Glad to hear that Trey's doing well!

Hugs,  Smiley

Thats interesting because I was under the impression that you could ONLY use coriciden(sp) Hpb (High Blood Pressure) I haven't given Mandy anything but since her strokes because she has the allergy thing going on she is actually taking it right now. Wow I didn't know about benadryl maybe Jill can ask Theresa for another opinion on it, Mandy has a rash once real fine all over her belly and just suffered through the itching because I couldn't give her anything....thats interesting. Hey Jill can help us out? Thanks!

O.K., I checked with Teresa, who said that it's fine for MM patients to take Benadryl.  Hope that helps!

I heard the same thing...because Coriciden Hpb doesn't have the psudoepinephrine (I think thats what it was).

I usually stick with straight Tylenol...just my  Smiley.
