headache and MM symptoms
Oct 15th, 2006 at 2:41am

Do you ever get your headaches and everytime you get a headache you get the MM symptoms?  My headaches come on full force and they feel like there is a huge amount of pressure or ten ton weight on my head and then my arm goes numb...  I know this has probably already been asked, but I was just wondering... Why do headaches do this?  what can I do about them if they occur daily?  Sleep, most likely.

Thank you all.

I hope you are enjoying the fall weather in the US or wintery weather for that matter, wherever you may be.

Hi ya Ladybugz,

I have a question... You had your surgery about 5-6 months ago, am I correct? Can I ask what type of surgery (direct or indirect) and if it was done on both sides?

I’m concerned with the symptoms you describe and how often you get them. Have you had an MRI/MRA or any post-op tests or check-up?

5 months post-op... I think it was EDAS on one side only... they just changed it as I was going into the operating room, literally, so I got confused as to what they did to me.  It must be indirect bc they took the muscle and plastered it to my brain so the vessels could grow. I might not be getting enough nutritional value since I dont have time to shop or have the energy to walk to the market.  working a lot to pay for the bills is another issue.  I go for check up in December.

Hi There,
I too, am concerned about your symptoms and feel that you should be taking a more pro active approach to your health. Your doctor SHOULD be following you up more closely than he appears to be and if you don't know what surgery you have had YOU NEED TO FIND OUT!! You need to get people on board to help you - a team of experts to monitor you and make sure it is all ok. They cannot help you if they don't know what is going on with you. If you don't follow through and something happens then you are the only one who will be having to deal with the repercussions and to me that doesn't make any kind of sense. I have said before that I no longer need to be monitored BUT i know that if I need help ALL of my team of experts would be there for me - all I have to do is call. My health is the most important thing to me. Personally, my father had a major stroke on the weekend (not MM related) and I WOULD NOT WANT TO be in that situation willingly. So you need to do whatever you can to look after no 1.
You've got to be more motivated to look after yourself.
Don't mean to be getting heavy but you have to be responsible for yourself ESPECIALLY with a condition like MM where, if you don't take it into your own hands, you could suffer serious consequences which could be avoided if you took an active role in your health. MM is NOT to be played with and taken forgranted.

If you had the EDAS procedure, it’s understandable to allow time for the collaterals to develop to improve your blood flow, but the symptoms you’ve been continually experiencing after your surgery are very serious, and if it were me, I would NOT wait until December for a check up. I’d contact your doctors immediately and insist they see you ASAP. They should take some tests to make sure your surgical results are coming along the way they expected and also to make sure your MM has not progressed to the other side. I certainly don’t want to frighten you and I’m not qualified to say if it’s serious. I’m simply saying, the list of symptoms you’ve been describing are in fact 911 concerns, IMO.

Here is the list of stroke symptoms according to The American Stroke Association. One or more is considered to be an emergency medical situation and you’ve been describing every single one of these symptoms since your surgery.

·      Sudden numbness or weakness of the face, arm or leg, especially on one side of the body
·      Sudden confusion, trouble speaking or understanding
·      Sudden trouble seeing in one or both eyes
·      Sudden trouble walking, dizziness, loss of balance or coordination
·      Sudden, severe headache with no known cause

You have to see our concern. I’d rather be safe then sorry. When I look back and remember my niece telling me little things like, she couldn’t hold a pen; I would give anything on earth to have known they were warning signs of a pending stroke, but I didn’t. You my friend know these are signs of a possible stroke and hopefully can avoid something like that from ever happening to you. So please don’t take any chances! Oh… and don’t worry about the bills girlfriend, I agree with Moira, your health comes first, or you won’t be able to work to pay ‘em anyway.

Them's my Smiley
