Paige's 2nd surgery a success!!!
Dec 31st, 2006 at 1:36am

Hello everyone. It's been awhile since my last post.It has been a little wild around my house with Paige's surgery and the holidays.First of all,I hope everyone has had a wonderful holiday season.Paige had her 2nd surgery for mm on the 14th and she is finally getting back to her normal self. Cheesy She had both the direct and indirect bypasses on the right side(actually the indirect was done more in the center of her brain). Both procedures were done during the same operation and lasted about 7-7 1/2 hours. She came through it with flying colors, however the next day,a ct showed a small area that worried her surgeon. He was hoping that it was just swelling from the surgery since it was around the same area but a second scan the next day showed no change in the area therefore the doctor believes that she did have another stroke sometime after her surgery(probably while she was asleep).Thankfully, she has shown no signs of side effects caused from the stroke. The first few days after surgery, she was extremely weak.Mostly she would lie around and stare at us and wouldn't speak very much. She also had trouble with peeing on herself but that has finally started to get better. Now she acts like nothing ever happened and has only had one TIA since her surgery(she was having them every other day before).Once again we have been extremely blessed that this was taken care of before she suffered any long term effects. We want to send a HUGE THANK YOU to everyone out there who has kept Paige in your thoughts and prayers.Happy Holidays.

Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

Great news!

So glad to hear Paige's second surgery is behind her and she is feeling well.  It still amazes me how the MM children bounce back so quickly.

Keep us posted and let us know how Paige is doing.

Happy Holidays to you and your family.

Hugs,

Lore

I am so glad to hear Paige came through her surgery, and is now recovering well.  She is often in my thoughts.

It sounds like you had a pretty rough holiday... I hope you are able to get back to normal soon, and I hope that Paige's new bypass helps her to get the blood flow she needs.

I want to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers for Paige. She had her 2 week follow up with Dr.Boop this week and he was impressed with how well she is doing.Right now,all we can do is wait and see if the surgery works completely. As I have already mentioned, her condition has improved although she still has TIAs but they are not as often as before.I know it will take a little time for the indirect bypass to work 100%.Dr.Boop is also concerned with how and if the stroke she had after surgery will effect her in the future.Only time will tell but regardless,it will be better than what could've happened if she had suffered a major stroke. He wants to see her back in 6-8 weeks for another angiogram to make sure the bypasses are maturing.
